St Pat’s Boys 2 0 Carnew
Carnew lost their hundred per cent record when they travelled to Carlow on Saturday evening as St Pats got their second win on the bounce. We knew once they got used to playing together these Pat’s players would make a great team and it looks like they will be right in contention for the title. The game was evenly contested, and chances were few and far between in the opening quarter of the game. Carnew FC created chances down the left wing on several occasions but failed to finish when well placed. St. Pats took the lead after 23 minutes when Simon Rea hung a ball up to the back post where John O’ Neill drove the ball home on the volley. Pats were well on top now and applying a lot of pressure on the back four of Carnew. Simon Rea (now know as the free kick expert) scored a free kick on 32 minutes to give Pats a two-goal cushion going into half time. The second half was a lot more evenly contested with both teams having their fair share of the play. Alan McDermott went close on 56 minutes but dragged his shot wide from 20 yards. Peter Branagan found Shane Fitzharris out wide, and his shot beat the keeper but narrowly missed the target. St. Pats controlled the final quarter of the game and secured the win. Best for Pats were Adam Flynn, Lee Murphy and Ian Fleming.

29/05/2023 02:23The first Wicklow derby of the Carlow league took place on Friday evening when Carnew made the trip to Baltinglass. Carnew were dominant in the first half of this contest and went ahead when Kevin Walsh chested home a PJ O'Keefe corner early in the first half. They conjured up further chances to increase the lead through Walsh, William Dixon, David O'Rourke and Robbie Elliott, but none were converted. O'Keefe also had a few shots from distance comfortably saved. Baltinglass grew into it though in the second half, no doubt helped by having the setting sun at their backs. A couple of in swinging corners caused havoc, with men on the posts rescuing Carnew. Baltinglass finally equalised through a long throw-in that landed in the 6 yard box and was finished tidily. Carnew were more reliant on crosses in that half, with Dixon and O'Rourke fluffing headers from same, but the game petered out in the end to finish 1-1. The two teams now have a quick chance to establish superiority when they lock horns again in the Mullins Cup on Tuesday in Carnew. Best for Carnew were Robbie Elliott, Fran Byrne and David O'Rourke.
more.. 17/07/2021 21:39Carnew 3 2 St Anne’s
After shocking league runners up Killeshin last week Carnew took on St Anne’s who didn’t get off to a great start against champions Crettyard and probably feared the worst, but it proved to be a very entertaining close game. Carnew took a very early lead when a Quentin House corner went all the way in, after the keeper and the players challenging for the ball, all failed to connect. St. Anne's rallied though and deservedly equalised, when great work from Gary Walsh in midfield put in Noel Lawlor to equal the game, but William Dixon put Carnew back in front from the edge of the penalty box just before half-time. Carnew went two goals ahead early in the second half after a fine cross from Garrett Gregan from the left was finished by Seán Kinsella. To their credit though St. Anne's refused to quit, making it 3-2 when Trevor Reardon who had come on volleyed from close range after good work from Joe Brophy. The visitors then missed a penalty to equalise near the death. Best for Carnew were Seán Kinsella, PJ O’Keefe, and William Dixon. Best for St.Anne’s was Pauraic Brandon, Gary Walsh, and Noel Lawlor.

Wexford side Carnew made the trip up to Laois to play their first even seniors’ game in the Carlow league and they raised a few eyebrows with a win. Killeshin have struggled to find the form of last year since games recommenced and this was a game they dominated and created many chances but failed very poorly to finish the many chances. Killeshin settled into a rhythm quickly enough and were one nil up on 15 minutes when Brian Farrell converted when put through by Ian Brennan. It looked like the Wexford side would be in for a long afternoon until they got back level when a defensive blunder left them with a simple tap in to leave it 1-1 at the break. Killeshin piled on the pressure on Carnew who defended deeply but a host of chances were wasted by Barry Ryan, Shane Coakley, Glenn Ryan, and Brendan Shortt. These missed chances were punished when Killeshin gave away the ball on the edge of their own box with just 8 minutes remaining and Carnew shocked the home side who scored the winner. Ryan and Coakley missed guilt edged chances in the final minutes to snatch a draw for the home team. Best for Killeshin, Martin Burke, Ian Brennan, and Ricardo Tavolieri
