St. Fiacc's FC v Slaney Rovers
o35 div 2 16/07 19:30
St. Fiacc's FC 3 - 0 Slaney Rovers
This game was built as potential decider with Fiaccs needing a win against the unbeaten Rathvilly side. After last week’s shock defeat St Fiaccs had a point to prove and started the game on the front foot and quickly took the lead when Alan Smith threaded a great through ball into Brian O’ Rourke who slotted the ball home. Fiaccs continued to dominate and not long after Roy Pearson played in Brian O’ Rourke who got his second of the game with a very good finish. The home side continued to press and were rewarded with a 3rd goal when Brian O’ Rourke set up Oisín Ayers to head the ball into the back of the net to make the half time score three nil. Slaney came out in the second half looking like a different team and started to press forward and their striker Daniel O Brien was denied by the woodwork twice but St Fiaccs held firm throughout the second half to keep the clean sheet and get a very important three points that moved them back to the top of the table with Slaney. It was an all-round excellent performance from the home side with Alan Smith, Brian O’ Rourke and Michael McGrath standing out. For Slaney Patrick Byrne, Gary Halpin and Declan Brennan trying the hardest.

Village FC v St. Fiacc's FC

Village FC 1 - 0 St. Fiacc's FC

Village 1 0 St Fiaccs

Village FC recorded their first win of the season with a gritty performance against unbeaten league leaders St. Fiacc's FC at the Superbowl in Leighlinbridge on Saturday evening. St Fiacc's started the brighter of the two sides and pressed the Village goal with slick passages of play during the opening 20 minutes. However, they were frustrated time and again by stout defending and resolute goal keeping from the home side. Village settled into the game and their counterattacking drew two corners before half-time. St Fiaccs started the second half as they had the first, and although they came close with an effort that hit the crossbar, the failed to put away several changes that came their way. Village continued to counter-attack and were awarded a penalty 25 minutes in when Brendan O'Driscoll was taken down in the box. Liam Walsh converted it, narrowly beating the keeper who got a hand to the ball. St Fiaccs looked for an equaliser, bombarding the Village goal in the last ten minutes, but couldn't find a way through. Best for Village were Liam Walsh, Jamie Horan and Paul Dunne.

St. Fiacc's FC 4 - 0 Fortbarrington FC

St Fiaccs 4 0 Fortbarrington

St Fiaccs started the game very quick and had the away side on the back foot from early in the game and created a few early chances but failed to make any of them count until on the 15th minute Brian O Rourke opened the scoring for the home side and it didn't take him long to find the net again for his second goal to put the home side 2 up, a well worked goal with great build up play from Michael McGrath and Alan Butler set up Dennis Nolan to round the keeper and tuck the ball for Fiaccs 3rd to leave it at half time three to nil. Into the second half and the away side tried to come back into the game but Fiaccs defended extremely well, and it was the home side who scored a 4th when a Brian O Rourke deflected shot looped over the keeper. Best for the home side in a good all-round performance was Michael McGrath, Brian O’ Rourke and Alan Butler.

Killeshin were out of the blocks quickest and should have been 1 up on 10 min when Mick McCartneys long range shot crossed the line and rebounded off the inner goal Stanton and the unsighted couldn't give the goal. 10 min later Shane Coakley thought he had given Killeshin the lead but it was rulled out for offside
