This course is designed to develop better coaches within junior football both men’s and women. It’s however particular pleasing to see a number of women signing up for the course. The Carlow league knows how important it is in developing female coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers to support the growth and sustainability of Women’s football. While it’s important to include and retain female coaches it’s also extremely important to improve coaches in the men’s game. This course is part of the educational programme set down by the F.A.I which helps transfer valuable knowledge and expertise to participants of the course.

The Women’s game is changing and Participation numbers are increasing, the F.A.I. strategic plan represents another step forward in the development of our game. The plan provides a clear outline of the road to be taken in order to maximise the potential in supporting and developing our game. The F.A.I. Women’s football Committee is now in place to oversee the development and growth of girls and women’s Football in Ireland. There are 7 regional committees now in place and have been set up to support the development of girls and Women’s Football in each region.

The main areas of focus for the Carlow League over the next 2 years will be Promotion, Coach Education and Club development and to encourage more clubs in providing a higher standard of coaching within their clubs. The Adult Intro Course is just the first on the pathway that will see local coaches participate in a number of courses and workshops leading to the FAI “D” Licence course at the end of the current playing season.
