New Oak Boys 1

St Patrick’s Boys 0

A Dean Kelly penalty on the stroke of half time was enough for New Oak to claim the points and move into second spot in the table. Slaney lead the way by two points but with New Oak having played four games less the odds are getting shorter on the Carlow Town lads reclaiming the title. The hosts dominated possession for long periods of the first half but with the Pat’s defence in mean mood they struggled to get clear chances in front of goal. David Doyle’s header which just cleared the Pat’s crossbar the closest either side came to a goal in the opening half hour. With half time approaching the deadlock was broken, Doyle fouled in the area as he was about to shoot and Dean Kelly calmly converted to put the hosts 1-0 up on 44 minutes. There was still time for the lively Doyle to strike an effort off the post as New Oak almost doubled their advantage before the ref blew for half time.

Pat’s were a little more adventurous on the restart with Liam Byrne and Haitham Alkalbain probing for openings but with David O’Shea rock solid at the heart of the New Oak backline Pats were getting little joy. New Oak’s most likely source of a second goal was Kelly but twice his efforts from just outside the area went narrowly wide but with the visitors lacking a cutting edge in front of goal Kelly’s first half strike from the penalty spot was enough to see New Oak over the line after a solid team showing.

Best for Pat’s included Haitham Alkalbain, Liam Byrne, Owen Murphy and Anto Lawlor.
