Substitute Adam Steed struck deep into injury time to see Killeshin march to their first win since their opening day rout of Ballymurphy. The result puts a dent in an injury ravaged Hanover’s title hopes as they lost their second game of the season.

It was a close and tight game throughout with the early stages being cagey and tight, neither side able to create much. It took 18 minutes for Killeshin to find the breakthrough as a long range shot from Ian Brennan found the back of the net. However, Hanover fired back almost immediately as Jonathan Walters got onto the end of a corner and equalised with an effort from the edge of the box. Hanover could have had a second on the half hour mark when a Simon O’Shea corner from the left found Cathal Coughlan who missed the ball for a tap in. Killeshin went close four minutes before the break as a shot from the edge of the box rattled the crossbar and cleared. On the stroke of half-time, Mark Brennan’s effort from the left was parried out by the Hanover ‘keeper.

Both teams upped the intensity in the second half. On the hour mark, Killeshin went close through an Ian Brennan free but it was parried away by the ‘keeper. Five minutes later, Hanover had found the breakthrough as Mark Kelly’s shot hit off a Killeshin defender and found the back of the net. Hanover will feel like they could have had a third when Phil Neenan tried to chip the Slaney ‘keeper but he managed to control it. It was Hanover pushing most for another goal in the closing stages. Pauric Coughlan’s cross from the left was deflected out with 20 minutes to go. With twelve minutes left, Coughlan had the chance to go close as he got onto the end of a cross but couldn’t control the ball. Killeshin didn’t give up and with four minutes to go, Steed equalised. Killeshin grabbed the ball from the back of the net and kept pushing, smelling blood. John Fleming shot straight at the ‘keeper whilst a free from the right-hand side was headed towards goal but somehow missed the target. Deep into injury time, Steed again got onto the ball and made no mistake to give Killeshin all three points.
