Ballymurphy Celtic 1 - 7 Crettyard United

Ballymurphy Celtic 1

Crettyard United 7

A foul goal haul from Anthony Fitzpatrick saw United cruise to the points in Borris on Sunday.

Fitzpatrick opened his account after just two minutes, timing his run across goal perfectly to head home a Danny Doyle cross. The lead was doubled barely two minutes later, Doyle on the mark this time as he applied the finishing touch to Evan Phillips ball from the left. Celtic responded well and could have been level as first Kevin Foley saw his goal bound effort cleared off the line and then Thomas Doyle rattled a shot off the crossbar. As is often the case with United, if you don’t take your chances you get punished and five minutes before the break Fitzpatrick raced clear of the Celtic back line before calmly slotting the visitors into a 3-0 half time lead.

The early exchanges of the second half saw United dominate and they added to their tally with regular ease. Fitzpatrick completed his hat trick on 55 minutes before Doyle netted his second and Crettyard’s fifth on the hour. Ten minutes later and Fitzpatrick grabbed his fourth with a fierce drive putting the visitors 6-0 ahead. Kevin Foley did find the net for Celtic to reduce the arrears before Gearoid Cuddihy notched goal number seven for United late on. There was still time for Celtic to earn and miss a penalty but it made little difference so late on in the game.

While Fitzpatrick took the man of the match award United also had impressive showings from Jack Brady and Mikey Byrne. Celtic’s best were Kevin Foley, Thomas Doyle and MJ Doran.
