St Josephs Blue Youths 3 - 0 Crettyard United

St Joseph’s Blue 3

Crettyard United 0

Joey’s entertained Crettyard in blustery conditions, with Joey’s getting off to a jittery start, but they soon settled and started passing the ball around well and opening the Crettyard defence.

Joey’s first goal came when Jonah Dunne made a good run up the right wing and he then pulled back a lovely ball to the on-rushing Evan Maguire, who rocketed the ball into the back of the Crettyard net for 1-0. Joey’s dominating play and possession, they didn’t have long to wait for a second goal, as Dawid Radochonski’s drilled free-kick, forced the Crettyard keeper to push the ball on to the crossbar and Cian Shannon was there to finish off the rebound for 2-0. Joey’s third goal came just before the interval, when Sam Byrne made a run up the left and then crossed in a fine ball across the goals and it was met by Jonah Dunne, who swept it into the net for 3-0 and they took that comfortable lead into the interval.

In the second-half, Crettyard re-jigged their line-up and pushed three up fronts but the Joey’s defence stayed rock solid and kept a deserved ‘clean-sheet’ although, Joey’s should have added to their tally, but they were denied when a shot hit the post.

Best for Joey’s were Matthew Downey, Robert Timmons, Ross Mannion and Dylan McDermott, whilst it was a battling performance from Crettyard.

Round Tower Rovers v St Josephs Blue Youths
16/02 14:30
Round Tower Rovers 2 - 4 St Josephs Blue Youths

Round Tower Rovers AFC 2

St Joseph’s Blue 4

Joey’s settled quickly and created a couple of chances, before a shot by Dawid Radochonski’s shot forced an error in the Rovers defence and the ball ended up crossing the line for 0-1.

Rovers levelled the game at 1-1, as a brilliant free-kick from Ben O’Reilly, saw a touch from David Brennan and the head of Conor Conlan, before it entered the net for 1-1.

Joey’s went back in front, by 1-2, when Dawid Radochonski finished off a fine free-kick by Jack Murphy and then Joey’s went 1-3 up, as following an Evan McGuire free-kick, Ben Murphy got on the end of it to calmly slot the ball home and that was the score at the interval.

In the second-half, Joey’s created numerous chances but were very wasteful with their finishing, but they did score another goal, as Evan Maguire scored direct from a corner for 1-4 and cruising.

Rovers had the last word, as Adain Hanrahan scored from distance for 2-4, which was unfortunately ‘too little too late’ to make a comeback and that’s how it ended.

Best for Joey’s were Jonah Dunne, Sam Byrne, Cian Shannon and Robert Timmons, whilst it was a battling team performance from Rovers, although William Oxley in goal, deserves particular mention for a really fine display, ‘between the sticks’

A share of the spoils in all joeys contest

St Josephs Blue Youths 1 - 1 St Joseph's FC

St Joseph’s Blue AFC 1

St Joseph’s AFC 1

This was a very even contest between the two Joey’s teams and it was Joey’s Blue who started the stronger and they dominated the first half, with some lovely passing play.

Joey’s Blue took the lead on thirty-five minutes, when Robert Timmons played a ball from the back to Sam Byrne and he played it through to his striker Dylan McDermott, who made no mistake, with a fine finish for 1-0 and that was the half-time score. Joey’s Blue should have capitalised on their dominance, but they were thwarted by a fine display of goalkeeping by Craig Doyle, who was in tremendous form.

The second-half was a complete reversal of the first, in that Joey’s Blue, sat back and invited Joey’s on and they heaped pressure on the Blues defence and they were ultimately rewarded, for the pressure they applied, as Arnas Karalius, turned really well on a loose ball and drove it into the net, to make it 1-1. Both teams created further chances, but none were taken, and it ended honours even.

Best for Joey’s Blue were Cian Shannon, Ben Murphy and Ross Mannion, whilst standing out for Joey’s were Eoin Tynan, Kian Dooley and Jordan O’Brien.
