Bagenalstown AFC 2 - 0 Burrin Celtic

Bagenalstown AFC 2

Burrin Celtic 0

Bagenalstown’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a comfortable win over the Ballon side.

Bagenalstown started the game well but it took 30 minutes before a Stephen Fowler cross found Ryan Lundy who placed the ball into the bottom corner. Town found the net again after a great long ball over the top from ‘keeper Ciaran Cunningham found Matty Curran to lob the keeper.

Burren got a hold of the game in the second half but some good work from Cunningham in the goal and defenders Alan Whelan and Jimmy Cullen keep them at bay. Town did pose a threat from a few half chances but didn’t add to their lead.

Best for Town were Matty Curran, Brian Murphy and Neil Martin.

Bagenalstown hit for 6 by dominant Killeshin
Youths league 03/10 14:30
Bagenalstown AFC 0 - 6 Killeshin FC

Killeshin were off the mark after 9 minutes when John O'Shea latched onto a through ball from left winger Daniel McGrath, and O'Shea made no mistake to give the away side the lead.

The lead was nearly doubled on 20 minutes when Jake Haughney released Ivan Murphy on the wing. Murphy’s cross into the box was meet by Aaron Dorgan whose shot went just over the cross bar.

Two minutes later, however, it was that man Dorgan who lifted a precision ball over the Bagenalstown back four to O'Shea and the front man got his second of the day.

Killeshin were in control now and increased the lead further just one minute later when Aodhan Lowry converted an Ivan Murphy cross. Killeshin were well on top now and when Aaron Dorgan was taken down in the box, he then stepped up to convert the resulting spot kick with 38 minutes gone.

On the stroke of half time, it was 0-5 to the away side when a super effort from Dorgan, pressing and winning the ball in the Bagenalstown penalty area set up Daniel McGrath.

The second half saw a more resolute defensive effort from the home side and despite dominating possession Killeshin were restricted to long range efforts from Jack Byrne and Daniel McGrath.

With only four minutes remaining the away sides pressure paid off when some slick interplay between Byrne and Josh Bienko lead to John O'Shea completing his hat-trick.

Killeshin then ran out 0-6 winners.

Best for the away side Jake Haughney, Evan Tracey & Sean McGrath.

Baltinglass Town A 0 - 1 Bagenalstown AFC

Baltinglass Town A 0

Bagenalstown AFC 1

Bagenalstown pulled off a shock in this Carlow Cup encounter in Baltinglass on Sunday.

The home side dominated the early exchanges and Chris Heaslip shot over the bar on ten minutes following a cross by Adam Martin. The same player was again unlucky when his shot hit the crossbar on 25 minutes. The visitors had chances of their own with Craig Fogarty and Dion Wall going close. The last chance of the half fell to Ross Nolan but he failed to connect properly with an Eoin Gleeson cross. Scoreless at the break.

Town came out of the blocks in the second half and found the net through the evergreen Trevor Nolan. The Wicklow side responded positively and found the Bagenalstown defence in mean mood and they kept a clean sheet thanks to a spectacular save by stand in keeper Ryan Lundy. Chris Heaslip was unfortunate when he struck the crossbar for a second time on 75 minutes.

Best for Bagenalstown were Jimmy Cullen, Paddy O’Brien and Craig Fogarty. Best for Baltinglass were Kevin Osbourne, Robbie Ryan and Paul Redmond.

Ballymurphy Celtic 4 - 5 Bagenalstown AFC

Ballymurphy Celtic 4

Bagenalstown AFC 5

This was cracking cup game on Sunday morning with numerous twists and turns.

Bagenalstown took lead on 12 minutes after a great strike from Trevor Nolan found the bottom corner, but Ballymurphy responded fast and a low Thomas Doyle shot from 12 yards proved too hot to handle to make it one all. Bally dominated the rest of the half and could have easily went three or four goals up but for missed chances. Bally took the lead on 23 minutes when a pinpoint Thomas Doyle cross found Deccy Brennan who cushioned his delicate header to the bottom corner. Then on 40 minutes confusion in the Town box led to an OG from pressure from Brennan again to leave the home team 3-1 up at half time.

Bagenalstown came roaring out in second half and were level by 60 minutes with two good goals, the first from Matty Curran finishing after great work from Craig Fogarty and then Fogarty teed up Trevor Nolan for his second and game level. Bally then got back in front when Doyle flicked on to Evan's Wallace who side footed home on 75 minutes. Bagenalstown then levelled on 80 minutes when a super free from David Miley found Paddy O’Brien at the back to level up things at four all with ten minutes left. There was still time for a winner and what a winner it was as Dion Wall broke free and chipped the oncoming Ballymurphy keeper. Bally laid siege to the Town goal and with the last kick a Thomas Doyle bicycle kick was brilliantly saved and it ended 4-5. A cracking game of football.

Best for Bally were Paul Foley, Thomas Doyle and Deccy Brennan. Bagenalstown now march to the next round with great performances from Brian Murphy, Craig Fogarty and Paddy O’Brien.

Bagenalstown AFC 2 - 0 Round Tower Rovers

Bagenalstown AFC 2

Round Tower Rovers 0

Bagenalstown had a tough encounter with Round Towers on an icy morning.

The game was evenly contested throughout and the gap between the two teams in the table seemed to be irrelevant as both sides shared the possession. Town tried hard to break down the strong and physical Rovers defence and found a breakthrough after a long throw from Paddy O’Brien found Matty Curran at the back post to tap one home. Rovers had chances and forced a great top corner save from Dan Kearney from a Towers free kick.

After the break, again Rovers sat back and Town tried to break them down. Chances went abegging and Rovers started to believe they may have a chance of getting something from the game but great work from Craig Fogarty to close down the Rovers defence found Matty Curran who squared for Trevor Nolan to make it 2-0. Town took control of the last 20 minutes and closed out the game.

Best for Town were Paddy O’Brien, Brian Murphy and Murty Cummins.

A comfortable win for Bagenalstown saw them go top of Division Two and stake their claim for promotion in what was a clash of top vs bottom. Town started well and a great pass from Paddy O’Brien found Craig Fogarty whose shot found the net. On ten minutes Killeshin nearly took the lead as a long-range effort from James Brennan forced the Town keeper into action. Town tried hard but found it hard to find a second as Killeshin cleared two off the line.

Killeshin came out hard in the second half and they nearly equalised only for James Brennan to see his effort rebound off the crossbar. Town’s defence stood strong and eventually scored a second through Matty Curran as his effort was turned into the net by a Killeshin defender. Town added the third after good work in the middle Trevor Nolan scored.

Best for Town were Brian Murphy Murty Cummins and Jimmy Cullen. Killeshin can count themselves unlucky with the score line as it didn’t reflect their efforts with Aaron Dempsey, James Brennan and Brian Lowry standing out.

Hanover got off to a really quick start as on three minutes Junior Akinduro played in Eoghan Byrne to score for 0-1 and they doubled their lead to 0-2 when Luke Brennan crossed to allow Junior Akinduro to score beneath the on-rushing Bagenalstown keeper.

Hanover were dominant throughout and they went on to add a third on 23 minutes when Jake Haughney volleyed a Josh Lacken cross into the top corner of the net for 0-3. Despite Hanover creating several more chances they squandered them all and half-time came with a comfortable 0-3 interval score line to Hanover.

On 47 minutes, Junior Akinduro had an early chance to get his brace but he was denied by a brilliant save by the Bagenalstown keeper who was in excellent form. On 53 minutes Eoghan Byrne got his second goal as he converted a fine through ball that was threaded through the Bagenalstown defence by Shane Murphy for 0-4. Bagenalstown finally got on the attack in the fifty fourth minute but their shot veered just wide of the post and Hanover went on to add a fifth for 0-5 on 66 minutes as Kian Lawlor and Arnus Ubartas combined to cut through the Bagenalstown rear-guard and Ubartas drilled his shot into the far corner of the net. On 73 minutes Shane Murphy was sent through by Adam McCarron and his shot was met at the back-post for a tap-in for 0-6 and the scoring was completed when Shane Murphy’s fine cross was met by Kian Lawlor who headed home to make the final score an emphatic 0-7.

It was an impressive team display from Hanover and a battling performance from the Bagenalstown lads, who never gave up.

Bagenalstown got off to a great start as after only twelve minutes Dylan Hand scored to make it 0-1 after some sloppy Burrin defending. Burrin equalised on twenty minutes when a fine Ben Ward cross was well met by Stephen Roche to make it 1-1. Bagenalstown scored again before the interval when Kyle O’Neill fired home with an excellent shot from the edge of the penalty area to make it 1-2 and that was the score at half-time and was well deserved by Bagenalstown.

That was to change as the second half was all Burrin from start to finish as Burrin scored seven goals without reply with goals coming from a brace apiece from Dan Smyth and Jamie Behan and one each from Adam Nolan Adam Connolly and Dara O’Donoghue to give Burrin an emphatic 8-2 victory. Bagenalstown were just overwhelmed by Burrin’s second-half onslaught and just had no answer to it which was in marked contrast to the first half when they were decidedly on top.

This game was a six-goal thriller between these two well-matched teams and it was Joeys who opened the scoring on 15 minutes through Max Bolger for a 0-1 lead. Bagenalstown quickly equalised when Dylan Hand hit home a fine free kick. Joeys re-took the lead on 40 minutes from a great cross by James Hayden that was finished by the in-form Aongus O’Se for 1-2 but once again Bagenalstown equalised when a fine team move allowed Aidan Dowling to score to make it 2-2 and that was the score at the interval after a ding-dong first half.

Joeys third goal came from another team move that ended with a great cross by James Hayden that was beautifully headed home by Paddy Regan for 2-3. Bagenalstown battled hard to get level and Dylan Hand made it 3-3 with a cool finish under pressure for his brace and that looked to be the end of it but right at the death Bagenalstown conceded a penalty which Bagenalstown’s keeper Gorniak saved superbly and he also saved well again from the rebound to earn a draw.

Vale started the brighter of the two teams in this one-sided local derby as they put three quick goals past Bagenalstown with goals coming from Lorcan Galvin, Tommy Cummins and Craig Kehoe, as Vale were well on top of the youthful Bagenalstown side.

Mark Fitz made the score 4-0 when he scored a cracker from twenty-five yards and very quickly Tommy Cummins scored two in a row, to complete his hat-trick and make the overall half-time score 6-0 to Vale.

Burrin got off to the perfect start against a very young Bagenalstown team, as they overwhelmed them, by scoring four goals, without reply in the first twenty minutes, with goals from Dara O’Donoghue, Dan Smyth, Adam Nolan and an Own Goal.

On the half-hour – Mark Smyth got his second goal of the match, with a fine header from a corner, for his brace and Burrin went into half-time, with a very comfortable 0-5 lead.

To Bagenalstown’s credit they had grown into the game, against a very strong Burrin team who were also very well organised, but it was ‘a baptism of fire’ for the young team.

The second-half was a much more even affair, although after only five minutes of the re-start – Mark Smith completed his hat-trick for Burrin to go 0-6 up, however, that was the only other goal that Bagenalstown conceded, as they were battling hard to contain Burrin, with strong performances from Konrad Sokai, Adain Dowling and Dylan Hand, whilst it was a massive team effort from Burrin, but standing out for them were Diego Dunne and Scott Tracey.
