Ballymurphy Celtic 2

Newpark FC 4

Newpark started this encounter much the sharper and were ahead on five minutes when Tina Wright’s low shot found the bottom corner. Ballymurphy showed character and were level ten minutes later when the prolific Ann Murphy found the net. Both teams would cancel each other out for the remainder of the half.

It was a much-improved performance from Newpark in the second half when constant pressure on the Ballymurphy goal yielded a free kick in a dangerous area on 52 minutes. Jane Meagher stepped up and rifled it to the top corner. Newpark started to settle now and were soon out of sight when a couple of quick-fire strikes from Tracey Bourke would seal the three points. Ballymurphy kept pushing to the final whistle and were rewarded with a consolation from Murphy.

Aoife Barcoe and Ann Murphy impressed for Ballymurphy while Annie Dunne, Rosie Miller and Ebony Masuku stood out for Newpark.

Ladies league 20/03 14:00
Deen Celtic 1 - 2 Newpark AFC
Newpark started this game much the sharper and when Riah Lawson powered home a header inside the opening 5 minutes one could be forgiven for thinking this would be a long afternoon for the Castlecomer side given the league positions and current form. Not a bit of it to be fair to Celtic. Newpark did however double their lead on twenty minutes when Lawson was on hand to grab her second as she lobbed the advancing keeper with the deftest of finishes. Celtic got their chance to reduce the arrears straight away with a sublime defense splitting pass, 2-1 at the break. The second half was a scrappy affair in truth with Celtic decent in possession but never really turning the Newpark defense and Newpark themselves contributing to the second half stalemate being wasteful in front of goal despite smacking the crossbar late on . Best on the day for the victors were Kellyanne Moran, Annie Dunne and goal hero Riah Lawson

Ladies league 30/01 11:00
Newpark AFC 2 - 0 Crettyard United
This top of the table clash didn"t disappoint in Kilkenny on Sunday morning as both sides went on the offensive from the first minute. Niamh Power was a torn in the side of the Newpark defense throughout the entire encounter while at the other end the power and pace of Riah Lawson had the Crettyard defense at sixes and sevens at times. Despite the attacking threat of both sides they never really troubled either keeper and it was beginning to look like who scores first wins. Early in the second half it would Newpark that would make the breakthrough from a handball decision in the Crettyard box, Gemma Costigan slotting the resulting penalty into the bottom corner. Newpark were clever in their decision to take Lawson off the wing after this and push her through the middle to play on the break. Inside the last five minutes this would pay dividends as Lawson picked the ball up , skipped past four defenders and coolly slotted home for a fine individual goal and seal the victory. Standing out for Newpark in a fine team display were Tina Wright, Ciara Delaney and Riah Lawson while Patrice Whelan , Niamh Power and Aisling Behan did well for Crettyard

Newpark AFC 2 - 1 Deen Celtic
Newpark were slow out of the gates in this encounter and probably deservedly fell behind on 12 minutes when Celtic sprung the offside trap and the striker with a delicate chip over the advancing keeper to open the scoring. This seemed to shake some life into Newpark and they began to dominate large parts of the game from here. Celtic almost got to the break with the lead but were undone in the 44th minute when a fantastic team move involving Sinead McGrane, Tina Wright and Millie Molloy released McGrane to slot home for parity. The second half became a midfield battle with some proper tackles on display. One moment of magic in the 50th minute from Ria Lawson would decide the outcome however, a stunning strike from the right side, all of 30 yards on the angle to reward the efforts of Ciara Delaney, Maddie Lawson and Rachael Wall while it was a decent team effort from the Deen Celtic unit

Newpark 5 Crettyard 5

An entertaining game took place in Kilkenny on a cold Sunday afternoon . Crettyard started a little brighter than the hosts and went ahead on 5 minutes, Deirdre O’Shea cutting in from the left and firing past the helpless keeper. Newpark started to get a foothold in the game and almost leveled through Ria Lawson and a Jenny Clifford free kick. Newpark were awarded an indirect free in the Crettyard box but quick thinking from Lawson and Clifford released Tina Wright for a tap in at the back post. Crettyard were awarded a comer on the half hour and their goal machine Aisling behan heade home to restore their advantage. Newpark were soon level again , Wright and Clifford combined to release Clifford who finished coolly.

The second half would continue in the same vain, Crettyard goin in front again, a quick free kick put Tamara Agar through on goal who made no mistake. Back came Newpark again , Annie Dunne with an excellent over the top pass released Chiara Cardillo whose first touch put her in to make it 3-3.

Now it was time for Newpark to take the lead , Jenny Clifford received the ball deep, taking on four defenders and firing a wonderful solo effort home. This time it was Crettyard’s turn to respond and Behan got her second of the game with a snapshot to level it up again. Crettyard scored their fifth when Tamara Agar got her second with a fine strike from a free kick. The scoring wasn’t finished there however , Abbie Wall played a stunning ball through to Amy Clifford who found herself through on goal only for the Crettyard keeper to make a fantastic save but unluckily the ball rebounded off the Crettyard defense and found its way into the net to tie the game up. Both teams deserve credit for a fantastic display

Newpark AFC 2 - 5 St. Patricks Boys

Newpark AFC 2 – 5 St Pats Boys AFC.

Pats started on the front foot and were rewarded, when Aaron Bowden took a shot from the edge of the Newpark box and it took a wicked deflection into the net to give Pats a 0-1 lead.

Newpark got back on level terms when lack of concentration in Pats defence, enabled their striker to easily score in ‘a one on one’ with their keeper, to make it 1-1.

Just before the interval, Pats - Saiful Islam placed a side-footed shot into the top right corner of the net and give Pats a 1-2 lead, that they took into half-time.

As in the first-half, Pats started the brighter and they were awarded a penalty early on, Cian Kelly stepped up to easily convert into the top corner and give Pats a 3-1 lead.

Just after the penalty, another mix-up in Pats defence, saw Pats concede an Own Goal to make the score 2-3 and despite this set-back, Pats kept the pressure on Newpark and substitute Pau Piera Turull hit a ‘top drawer’ half volley into Newpark’s net to make it 2-4.

Pats last goal came from yet another penalty, again taken by Cian Kelly, which he calmly placed in the bottom corner, for his brace of spot – kicks and a final score of 2-5 to Pats.

Man of the Match was Saiful Islam and he was well backed up by an all-round team performance from his team-mates, whilst Newpark battled bravely right to the end.

Newpark played into a strong breeze in the first half and were under pressure for large parts and should have been behind early but for the exploits of Annie Dunne and Jayne Meagher in goal.

Vale eventually broke the deadlock on 35 minutes through Aoife Roache. Newpark started to get a foothold in the game and levelled just before the break when Denise Doyle was rewarded for her tireless work throughout the half.

The second half was a more evenly contested affair with chances at a premium and both defences working well. If ever you’re going to score a winner then the 90th minute is the time to strike and Newpark did just that when Abbie Wall found the net after some great work from Doyle and Sinead McGrane.

Best for Newpark were Annie Dunne, Jayne Meagher, Rosie Miller and Denise Doyle while it was an all-round impressive Vale performance.

Newpark FC 3

St Fiacc’s 1

St Fiacc’s started much the brighter in this encounter in Kilkenny on Sunday afternoon.

They were unlucky not to be ahead when Sharon O’Neill’s shot smacked the crossbar. This seemed to spur Newpark into action and five minutes later were in front when Chiats Cardillo’s square ball found Abbie Wall 20 yards out and she rifled her shot to the top corner. On the half hour mark Ebony Masuku doubled the Newpark advantage when she fired low into the bottom corner following a great passing move. Fiacc’s pulled one back soon after when Sharon O’Neill bundled the ball over the line to keep the deficit to the minimum at halftime.

The second half started much the better from Newpark and were soon two clear again when Cardillo got her second of the game this time a strike from 20 yards to seal the points for Newpark and reward a fine team performance.

Newpark AFC 2 - 1 Ballymurphy Celtic

Newpark FC 2

Ballymurphy Celtic 1

This was Newpark's first game back since November and it showed as they were very rusty from the start.

Ballymurphy took full advantage of that and took the lead after 20 minutes through Michelle Kelly. This spurred Newpark into action who started pressing the Ballymurphy goal and this pressure paid off when Newpark equalised just on the stroke of half time when Ebony Masuku latched onto a loose ball and buried it into the bottom corner of the net. Both teams went in search of a winner and as a result would lead to an entertaining half.

In the 75th minute Newpark had a great chance when a ball over the top was collected by Denise Doyle and was unlucky to slot it inches wide of the post. Ballymurphy had a good chance that was saved by Jayne Meagher in the Newpark goal. Then with 7mins to go a free kick swung in by Abbie Wall was bundled over the line by Kellyanne Moran. That's the way the game ended and Newpark were by happy to collect their first three points of the new year.

Best for the winners were Abbie Wall, Denise Doyle, Rosie Miller and Ebony Masuku while Emma Cooper, Ann Murphy and Stacey Hennessy did well for Ballymurphy.

Newpark started the second period much the better and were in front only a minute in when a great passing move involving Tracey Bourke and Tina Wright released Denise Doyle who made no mistake. Newpark with their tails up now pressed for a second but were always susceptible to a breakaway and this happened midway through the half when Anna Radu found the net. Both teams continued on the front foot for the last twenty minutes but neither could find a winner. Mill then added two more goals before half time through Trina Duggan and a well worked team move ending with a great strike from Megan Grufferty.

For the third game on the spin Newpark found themselves a goal up inside of five minutes and again it was dead ball specialist Jane Meagher who found the top corner with a 25-yard free kick. Vale were soon level when Shauna O’Neill’s long ball from the back line fell to the feet of Susan O’Leary who cleverly drew the keeper and calmly slotted home to the empty net. On 25 minutes Vale turned the game on its head when they took the lead when good play in the back line from Amanda Dermody and Shauna o Neill delivered to the ball to Philomena murphy who beat her player and delivered a great ball to Aoife Roche who made no mistake of putting it in the net. It stayed that way until half time.

Newpark started the second half much better than the first with some good passing and were unlucky not to draw level when Denise Doyle poked the ball past Vale keeper but this was cancelled due to an offside. Newpark kept pressing and had another goal disallowed for a hand ball. Newpark must have thought it was going to be one of those days. While pressing high up the pitch they finally got their reward with a deft flick over the Vale keeper by Denise Doyle which brought the game level. Both teams created chances looking for a winner but a draw ended up being a fair result in an evenly contested game.

It was an all-round good team performance from Vale while Denise Doyle, Joanne Walsh and Tracey Bourke shone for Newpark.

Killeshin FC 1

Newpark started strong straight away with 15-year-old Kellie Ann Moran scoring after just two minutes from a great run down the wing from Sinead McGrane. This you would think should have set the tone for the game but it didn’t. Newpark got very sloppy with their game and let Killeshin back into it. Killeshin would take full advantage and equalised just before the break with an excellent finish from Niamh Smith. Suzanne Meagher thought she restored the Newpark advantage but her shot cannoned back off the post.

The game was almost settled ten minutes after the break with two quick fire goals from Newpark, the first when Tracey Bourke’s cross field pass found Jane Meagher who lobbed the advancing Killeshin keeper and Moran would net her second of the game following a flowing passing move involving herself and Sinead McGrane. That’s how things would stay with Newpark deserving winners.

Kellie Ann Moran, Tracey Bourke and Sinead McGrane impressed for Newpark while Niamh Smith and Lucy Gaffney did well for Killeshin.

Hanover Harps 3

Today’s game was always going to be tough for both teams. With Newpark rebuilding and Hanover reforming both teams set up for a good game and they didn't disappoint.

Newpark could have been in front inside the first minute when Denise Doyle found herself thru on goal but fired just over. The Hanover response was immediate when Essmay Murphy found herself thru on goal but smacked the upright. On 20 minutes she would make amends when Hanover were awarded a penalty for a handball and slotted home from 12 yards.

The contest was end to end and even more so on 65 minutes when Newpark levelled from Tracey Bourke’s 25 yard piledriver. Hanover made a couple of positional changes and it paid dividends when on 73 minutes a Ciara Nolan pass found Rachael Whelan free at the edge of the box and she coolly slotted home from a tight angle. It was soon to be three when Lauren McGrath volleyed home from 25 yards. Murphy was unlucky not to get her second when her free kick struck the post and Kellie Nolan was denied by some brave goalkeeping at the death.

Best for Newpark were Irene Guilfoyle, Tracey Bourke and Annie Dunne while impressive for the winners were Leanne Tumelty, Kellie Nolan, Ciara Nolan and the impressive Marie Hynes.

League champions Crettyard travelled to Kilkenny on Sunday to take on Newpark looking for a place in the Division One cup final.

It was the hosts that started the better, creating several half chances but last luck wouldn’t shine on them and they failed to capitalise. As the game wore on Patrice Whelan in midfield was having more and more of an effect on proceedings and this was evident on 25 mins, Deirdre O’Shea whipped in a corner causing panic and the ball would fall kindly to Alanna Waters who made no mistake from close range. Cretty were soon to double their advantage when Whelan’s long-range effort could only be parried by the Newpark keeper and the advancing Demi Donovan found the bottom corner. Newpark to their credit wouldn’t lie down and forced several saves from Christine Middleton in the Cretty goal and held on to book their place in the final.

Clare Kelly, Chloe Ryan and Patrice Whelan performed well for the winners while it was an all-round spirited Newpark performance.

Early in the second half Newpark had a chance to equalise when they were awarded a penalty only to put it wide. As Newpark were pressing they were caught on the break twice by Ballymurphy who scored two more goals. Newpark kept working right up to the end but had no joy in front of goal.

Despite the conditions it didn’t take Parkville long to achieve their objective when they scored inside five minutes. Newpark did not let this get them down as they pushed back at Parkville getting some good chances.

The second half was much very much the same with Newpark pressing for an equaliser. Newpark pushed forward committing players but it was Parkville who got a second when they caught Newpark on the break. Newpark finally got the goal they well deserved through Kiara Komar, but it was too late to impact on the score line.
