Crettyard United 7

Newpark FC 1

This encounter in Killeen on Sunday was a case of the champions against the champions elect and a rampant Crettyard performance left them within a point of regaining the crown.

Newpark travelled to Crettyard today in what was horrible windy conditions to play in. Newpark playing with the wind in the first half got off to a great start when a long ball came in over the top of the Crettyard defence and their striker made no mistake from close range for Newpark to go one up on the home side. However, it wasn’t long before Crettyard equalised, Chloe Ryan was pulled down in the box and awarded a penalty. Patrice Whelan stood up and confidently placed the ball in the top right-hand corner making it 1-1. This gave Crettyard the boost they needed. Great play by Marie Meagher and Chloe Ryan found Aisling Behan unmarked in the box however the keeper made a great save, but the ball fell to Demi Donovan where she slotted it home. Another goal came just before the half when Aisling Behan struck the ball however it fumbled in the box and somehow ended up in the back of the net leaving it 3-1 at the half.

The second half started off well for Crettyard when Patrice Whelan and Alanna Waters linked up well down the left side to find Chloe Ryan on the edge of the box who placed the ball well and found the top corner of the net making it 4-1. When a freekick whipped in by Deirdre O’Shea found Aisling Behan who in turn found Demi Donovan who blasted home another goal. Newpark never gave up and attempted to push on but this in turn gave the Crettyard’s strikers ample opportunity. Chloe Ryan found Aisling Behan twice before the final whistle was blew leaving it 7-1 at the finish.

Best for Crettyard, Chloe Ryan, Clare Kelly and Demi Donovan.
