Mill Celtic 1

Newpark AFC 2

Newpark were made work hard for this victory against a determined Mill Celtic.

The home side set their stall out early by putting the league leaders under pressure but Newpark had their opportunities on the break and it was through one of these counter attacks that they took the lead when Maria Connolly struck to put the Kilkenny side ahead.

The half was an end to end contest until the break but both defences held on strongly as Newpark remained in the lead by a score of 1-0.

In what was a complete opposite to the first half, it was Newpark who put Mill under pressure early on and Jemma Costigan came close to giving her side a two goal lead. They did take the lead after Caoimhe Shiels was brought down in the penalty area and Kirsty Maher struck home from the spot.

Mill pushed on for an equaliser and they got it through a penalty of their own which Jo Cullen struck to make it 2-1 on the hour mark. Both sides pushed on and had opportunities but Newpark managed to hold on for the victory.

Newpark came away with all three points in an important clash that may well decide the destination of the Division One title.

With the season coming close to its conclusion, this clash between the leaders and the third placed side was always going to be an important game and Newpark started off well with shots from Jemma Costigan and Denise Doyle testing the Parkville keeper early on.

Newpark looked most likely to take the lead and they did when Tracey Bourke headed in a pinpoint cross from the right wing from close range. The goal sparked some life into the visitors as they put some pressure on the home side, while Newpark also had their opportunities but neither side could find the net as the Kilkenny side went in 1-0 up at half-time.

Parkville had a lot of opportunities in the second half as they were trying to get back into the game, but they couldn’t find a way to finish the opportunities that came to them. Newpark took the three points and are one step closer to the title with their next league game against Ballymurphy going some way to deciding the title.

Newpark had a strong team performance while Trish Mullaly and Ciara Nolan played well for Parkville.

Newpark AFC 0

Newpark remain on top of the league after they held off Crettyard United to come away with a draw.

The strong winds helped Crettyard create numerous chances with Colleen Rickard, Grainne Fogarty, and Aisling Behan all having opportunities to break the deadlock, but they couldn’t break down the Newpark backline or find a way past their goalie. Crettyard were putting Newpark under immense pressure throughout the half and this pressure led to their best chance of the half, which fell to Lauren McGrath as she pounced on a short goal kick she ran free and with only the goalie to beat but she failed to beat the goalie.

Newpark improved in the second half as they created a few opportunities but like the first half, Crettyard had the best chances. Many of them fell to the usually clinical Aisling Behan but she could not hit the target with the opportunities that fell her way as both sides played out a scoreless draw.

Best for Crettyard were Aisling Behan, Colleen Rickard and Grainne Fogarty while it was a spirited team performance from Newpark as they maintained their top position while Crettyard are a point behind in third place.
