St Patricks Boys B 1 - 3 Wolfhill Athletic

St. Patrick’s Boys B 1

Wolfhill Athletic 3

Wolfhill and St Pat’s met in the first round of the Douglas Jewellers Carlow Cup in blustery conditions in Graiguecullen.

The game started well for the hosts as they scored the first goal of the game through Gauthier Camborde with a well taken header from an in-swinging cross which troubled the Wolfhill defence. However the game then turned in the away sides favour when Colin Campion finished off a fantastic team move for last year’s Division 3 champions. Within minutes, they had a second as Colin Campion finished off a blocked Ceilum D’Arcy shot. In a matter of minutes they scored a third when Bernard Wheatley made a blistering run down the wing which resulted in him scoring in what would be the final goal.

The second half was a dull one as neither team seemed to get a chance, however credit does go to the Wolfhill defence as they withstood relentless pressure from the hosts.

Best for the away side were Ceilum D’Arcy, Colin Campion, Bernard Wheatley and Sean Meaney. Best for St Pat’s were Dorian Deberle, Aaron McCafferty and Tomas Walsh.

Killeshin FC B 2 - 5 Wolfhill Athletic

Killeshin 2

Wolfhill Athletic 5

Wolfhill and Killeshin met in the first round of the Whites Pharmacy division one in Killeshin today.

The away side got off to a well-deserved start. Quick movement of the ball from wingers Jim Leech and Ceilum D'Arcy saw striker and last year's Division Three player of the year, Colin Campion capitalise on a loose ball in the Killeshin area. Killeshin weren't long responding with a goal of their own as a fierce shot from distance from Patrick Brannigan was too hot for Conor Knowles to handle in the Wolfhill goal as he saw the ball blast into the Wolfhill net. However, it was to be an overall good day for the man making his debut in goals as he pulled off a string of saves to keep Wolfhill in the game as they withstood an onslaught of attack from Killeshin throughout the first half. The games third goal came much the same as the first as good wide play from the away side saw striker Neville Johnson using his pace to get in behind the Killeshin defence and coolly slotting the ball in the bottom right corner of the goal. The first half did finish level as Willie Fitzpatrick was adjudged to have pulled down a Killeshin forward. Dean Goode found the roof of the net from the penalty spot. The sides went in all level at the break, however this was to be as good as it got for Killeshin as Wolfhill dominated the second half with Johnson, Campion and the excellent Ceilum D'Arcy who was a constant thorn in the Killeshin side getting on the score sheet. Killeshin did have another penalty but it was saved. The game ended 5-2 as the Laois/Kilkenny border side start off their League Campaign from where they left off last season. Best for the away side were Jim Leech, Colin Campion, Ceilum D'Arcy and Conor Knowles. Best for Killeshin were Aaron McGrath, Owen Scully and Cathal Dooley.

St. Patrick’s Boys 4

St Pat’s who previously lost 3-1 to Wolfhill in the first round of the Carlow Cup only two weeks ago came away with all three points away from home in their second league match of the season.

Boys got off to a super start after Aaron McCafferty’s strike made it 1-0 to the away side when the Wolfhill keeper could have done better. St Pat’s weren’t finished there as James Cummins doubled the Graiguecullen men’s lead. Wolfhill kept plugging away and were denied through some fine goalkeeping by John McGrath and some smart defending

The second half started off with a bang for the away side with Bazza O’Driscoll getting on the end of a great pass from Gauthier to make it 3-0. The game was now starting to open up and the home side soon found a way back into the game when they made it 3-1 through Ceilum Darcy with a fine solo effort. But this St Pat’s side has some great character and super sub Conor O’Brien scored on his debut to make 4-1 and the points were secure. A penalty late on for a handball was converted by Darcy and gave Wolfhill a second goal of the day and it finished 4-2 to St Pat’s.

Best for St Pat’s in an all-round brilliant performance were Gauthier Camborde, Jamie Malone and James Cummins whilst on a poor day for Wolfhill, Ceilum Darcy, Ciaran Carroll and PJ Rowan battled hard and played well.

Crettyard followed up last week’s ten goal against Baltinglass with another ten against neighbours Wolfhill as they breezed into the Shield quarter finals with the minimum of fuss.

It took just two minutes for the hosts to open the scoring as Lee Salter netted from a corner. Despite near constant pressure the second goal didn’t arrive for another half hour, Aaron Morris making it 2-0. Five minutes later Evan Philips netted after good work from Salter to leave it 3-0 at half time.

Any slim hopes that Wolfhill had of getting back into the game evaporated as they were reduced to ten men and the flood gates opened. Salter (2), Philips (2) and Bobby Dowling all finding the net to make it 9-0 before a fine effort from Adam Purcell finished off the scoring as United hit double figures for the second week in a row.

Best for United included Craig Comerford, Niall Purcell and Bobby Dowling.
