Nurney were comfortable winners at home on Sunday.

Villa got off to a flying start and goals from John Townsend and Val Fleming put them two up after 16 minutes. Joseph’s stuck to their guns and got a goal back when Dominique Maudec scored from close range on 21 minutes. Nurney however made their superiority count and Townsend and Fleming both added their second goals of the game to put Villa 4-1 up at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half John Townsend completed his hat trick from a 25-yard free kick. To their credit Joeys refused to fold and gave as good as they got for the remainder of the tie but Nurney were comfortable winners.

Tops for Villa were Adam Smyth, David and Colin Townsend, for Joeys Adam Breen, Adam Kerfau and Joe Fennelly were best.

Joey’s controlled this game from start to finish, but despite their superiority, they only managed a single goal, but it was enough to take all three points.

Village battled hard and were denied a penalty, but their losing run continues.

It was a brilliant team performance from Joey’s and best for Village were Peter Brophy, Joe Byrne and Paul Dunne.

Celtic Stars v St Joseph's FC

Celtic Stars 0 - 0 St Joseph's FC

Celtic Stars 0

St Joseph’s FC 0

This was a day when Stars never got going, missing chance after chance in both halves, with Tony Darcy, Martin Byrne twice and Dale Austin all going close, but they were not ‘on the top’ of their game.

Joey’s put in an outstanding defensive performance to nullify the Stars attackers and they thoroughly deserved their point from this fine display.

Best for Stars were Eddie Byrne, Martin Byrne and Richie Sinnott, whilst everybody contributed to Joey’s display.
