Bagenalstown AFC 2 - 0 Burrin Celtic

Bagenalstown AFC 2

Burrin Celtic 0

Bagenalstown’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a comfortable win over the Ballon side.

Bagenalstown started the game well but it took 30 minutes before a Stephen Fowler cross found Ryan Lundy who placed the ball into the bottom corner. Town found the net again after a great long ball over the top from ‘keeper Ciaran Cunningham found Matty Curran to lob the keeper.

Burren got a hold of the game in the second half but some good work from Cunningham in the goal and defenders Alan Whelan and Jimmy Cullen keep them at bay. Town did pose a threat from a few half chances but didn’t add to their lead.

Best for Town were Matty Curran, Brian Murphy and Neil Martin.

St Joseph's FC 1 - 8 Burrin Celtic

St Joseph’s 1

Burrin Celtic 8

For the second week in a row Burrin had another fast start going 0-3 up in the first twenty minutes with goals from Adam Nolan and a brace from Jamie Behan.

Joey’s did pull a goal back, when a corner wasn’t cleared by the Burrin defence and the ball dropped nicely for the Joey’s striker to tap home for 1-3. Burrin stepped up the pace and scored another four goals prior to the interval through Cormac Kinsella, Oisin Kelly – a penalty from Diego Dunne and Jamie Behan completed his hat-trick, giving Burrin an almost, unassailable half-time 1-7 lead.

Burrin started the second half the same as they finished the first, as within five minutes of the restart, Cian Brennan finished off a lovely through ball to make the score 1-8. That completed the scoring as the youthful Joey’s team, battled really hard to prevent Burrin adding any more goals to their tally and were successful, so there is something for them to take from their efforts, in the game.

Standing out for Burrin were Diego Dunne, Jamie Behan and Oisin Kelly, whilst it was a great team effort from Joey’s, who never gave up, they were just overwhelmed by Burrin’s first-half onslaught.

Bagenalstown AFC 0 - 6 Burrin Celtic

Bagenalstown AFC 0

Burrin Celtic 6

Burrin got off to the perfect start against a very young Bagenalstown team, as they overwhelmed them, by scoring four goals, without reply in the first twenty minutes, with goals from Dara O’Donoghue, Dan Smyth, Adam Nolan and an Own Goal.

On the half-hour – Mark Smyth got his second goal of the match, with a fine header from a corner, for his brace and Burrin went into half-time, with a very comfortable 0-5 lead.

To Bagenalstown’s credit they had grown into the game, against a very strong Burrin team who were also very well organised, but it was ‘a baptism of fire’ for the young team.

The second-half was a much more even affair, although after only five minutes of the re-start – Mark Smith completed his hat-trick for Burrin to go 0-6 up, however, that was the only other goal that Bagenalstown conceded, as they were battling hard to contain Burrin, with strong performances from Konrad Sokai, Adain Dowling and Dylan Hand, whilst it was a massive team effort from Burrin, but standing out for them were Diego Dunne and Scott Tracey.

Killeshin FC v Burrin Celtic

Killeshin FC 1 - 1 Burrin Celtic
Killeshin AFC1
Burrin Celtic

Killeshin didn’t let this set-back faze them and they caused problems for Burrin as Dylan Regan was very unlucky when his snapshot volley from an acute angle from outside the box went just inches wide. Later in the half a Killeshin free-kick wasn’t dealt with very well by the Burrin defence and the ball fell to Brendan McDonald on the edge of the six-yard box but his shot went over the crossbar letting Burrin off the hook. Despite all the pressure from ten man Killeshin it was Burrin who broke the deadlock very much against the run of play just before the interval when there was a mix-up in the Killeshin defence and the Burrin striker slotted home from the edge of penalty box and Burrin went into half-time holding that slender 0-1 lead.
It was a more determined Killeshin team that came out in the second half and within five minutes of the re-start they were awarded a penalty as Callum Rhodes was taken down in the box and up stepped Dylan Regan to despatch the ball home and put Killeshin on level terms at 1-1. Throughout Killeshin never looked like a team that had played the majority of the game with only ten men and they went on to dominate most of the second half. Killeshin’s Hubert Mazur and Mikey Dempsey were in great form and causing plenty of problems for the Burrin defence with their pace fine passing and good over-lapping runs and putting in plenty of good crosses meaning that the Burrin defence were kept on their toes in trying to rebuff the onslaught. Late in the game Killeshin’s Kaelum Hand nearly gave them all three points as his free kick just went wide of the Burrin post and it ended 1-1 which was a fair reflection of the game.
Best for Killeshin were Lee Nolan and Daniel Hegarty whilst it was a good team performance from Burrin.

Burrin Celtic v Hanover Harps B
Div Two 29/09 14:00
Burrin Celtic 2 - 2 Hanover Harps B

Burrin Celtic 2

Hanover Harps 2

Burrin caused an upset in their first senior league game in several years.

Hanover had the ball in the net on 20 minutes which resulted from a backward header by a Burrin defender but was ruled offside. Despite this, Hanover took the lead on 33 minutes when Kuba Dobosz played to Dillon Murphy who slotted the ball to the corner. Michael Dobosz saw his effort saved as he shook off three defenders on 36 minutes. Hanover were awarded a penalty as Kuba Dobosz was hacked to the ground but Dylan Walsh’s spot kick was incredibly saved by the Craig Doyle high and to his left.

Hanover added a second just after the break as Walsh cleverly back heeled in Murphy who cheekily chipped the Burrin ‘keeper. Burrin were awarded a corner with 15 minutes remaining and scored from a goalmouth scramble to close the deficit to one through Dylan O’Neill. Burrin equalised on 84 minutes from Liam McGuill’s effort.

Burrin Celtic 3 - 2 Nurney Villa

Burrin Celtic 3

Nurney Villa 2

Life for Burrin Celtic as a Junior team started with a win as they qualified for the next round of the Shield.

The match started with Burrin Celtic pushing on the ball and playing some lovely passes. Ten minutes in and John Kinsella was put through by a lovely ball from Jim Carroll and he slotted the ball home. Burrin were on top and on the half hour mark, Benny Fanning received a ball from Andrew Skelly, and he hit a left foot shot from 25 yards into the top corner. Burrin were pushing on and with five minutes left in the first half, John Kinsella scored again from a tight angle to make it 3-0. Nurney kicked off and within a minute had a goal as Burrin were caught napping.

The second half was like the first with Burrin pushing for more goals and then Nurney got a free kick on the left and Phillip Murphy rose and headed the ball in the net. Celtic had a man sent off with twenty minutes to go. Then Nurney had a man sent off with ten minutes left. Burrin Celtic had two good chances to score more goals but were wide of the mark.

Best for Burrin were John Kinsella. Benny Fanning and Andrew Skelly. Best for Nurney were Eamonn Dowling, Adam Kearney and Padraig Delaney.
