St Joseph's FC v Mill Celtic

St Joseph's FC 2 - 1 Mill Celtic

St. Joseph’s 2

Mill Celtic 1

The game started strong for St. Joseph’s as their young team piled the pressure on to Mill.

Against the run of play, a lapse in concentration at the back from St. Joseph’s led to Mill breaking the deadlock as Dylan Wynne’s cross was swept home by Wesley Mackey. Much of the same pressure continued from Joeys until the end of the first half, then continued for much of the second to no result.

Then with 20 minutes left, as the result of a corner, which was headed towards goal, a Mill Celtic player handled the ball on the line and a penalty was given and a red card brandished. Sean Aston finished from the spot to make it 1-1. Following a St. Joseph’s injury, both teams were down to 10 men. Both teams kept pushing for a winner and it came in injury time from Dinny Farrell for St. Joseph’s.

Best for St. Joseph’s were Dinny Farrell, Adam Jaysena and Jake Snoddy

Glencormack United 1 - 2 Mill Celtic

Mill Celtic travelled to Wicklow side Glencormac United in the Leinster Junior Cup this afternoon looking to get back on track after falling to a defeat last time out in the Carlow Shield.

This was a fiercely contested battle from the outset with Mill putting pressure on the home side with a flurry of corners. The away sides fast start was rewarded in the tenth minute when Brian Mackey was taken down for a penalty which was calmly dispatched by David Howe. The lead however wasn't to last long as in the eighteenth minute the lively Glencormac number eleven curled home a lovely effort from the edge of the box. Mill quickly regained the ascendency and came close with a number of headers from Dylan Wynne corners. Eric Mackey was the next to try his luck with a free kick which crept narrowly wide of the near post. Mill were playing some attractive football but had to keep full concentration at the back with Shane O'Neill, Brian Mackey and goalkeeper Stephen Hickey holding strong.

In the 37th minute Mill restored their lead as Sean Higgins raced onto a terrific through ball from David Howe and slid under the home goalkeeper.

The second half began with Glencormac coming fast out of the traps testing the pace of Mill full backs Paddy Mackey and Gary Lambe. There was a moment of panic as the Glencormac number eight fired narrowly over from distance but Mill held firm. Dylan Wynne had a great chance to double the lead but poked narrowly wide from a long paddy Mackey throw. Mill emptied the bench with ten minutes to go with Killian Harney Lawler, Andy Horan and James Corcoran each making a great impact whilst adding fresh legs. Glencormac piled on the pressure in the final few minutes but the away side held on for a hard fought victory to win 2-1 and progress to the next round of the LFA junior cup. Best for mill on the day were David Howe, Brian Mackey and Sean Higgins.

Mill Celtic v Castlemore United

Mill Celtic 2 - 1 Castlemore United

Mill Celtic 2

Castlemore United 1

Mill Celtic hosted new outfit Castlemore United in their first competitive outing of the new season on Sunday morning in Mill Lane. The home side started strongest and that showed when after a quarter of an hour a Dylan Wynne corner from the left was eventually turned home near the line via a deflection off an away defender.

Mill continued to press and got their reward from another set piece as Shane O Neill met a Dylan Wynne corner from the right with a header to double the hosts lead.

The second half began with Castlemore applying great pressure from the outset. Their fast start got the reward that it deserved when a free kick which was whipped to the back post was well turned home past goalkeeper Stephen Hickey. Despite the away side’s pressure, Mill’s defence led by Gary Lambe and Shane Molloy held firm. Mill created chances on the break with Wesley Mackey and Dylan Wynne being denied by fine saves by the keeper
