Crettyard United are through to the quarter-finals of the Carlow Cup after seeing off Mill Celtic.

In what were poor conditions in Crettyard, the home side had a good chance early on from Colleen Rickard but she couldn’t make the most of it. From then on it was all Mill Celtic as they had plenty of opportunities in the opening half but they couldn’t make the most of them.

Near the end of the half, Crettyard’s experience began to show with two quick fire goals. The first came when Rickard ran clear of the Mill defence and drove a shot from outside the box into the top corner. The home side made it 2-0 as Aisling Behan’s shot from distance managed to sneak under the keeper and in. That was how it stayed until the half-time break.

Both sides had their chances to get the next goal but it was Crettyard who managed to get it as Jenny O’Neill cut in from the right-hand side before she converted with a fine finish to put the finishing touches on a great all-round team performance.

It was a fine team performance from the victors while Natasha Tannion, Pamela Grufferty, Sarah Conboy and Megan Grufferty stood out for Mill Celtic.
