A tight start to this league encounter. Slaney playing with the breeze started to get slightly on top and scored after 20 minutes when Paddy Farrell scored directly from a corner kick. The wind a helping factor. Castle responded well, and the first half remained even enough. Slaney leading at the break. In the second half Castle playing with the wind completely dominated proceedings. Dominating in possession and creating chances. But it was not until, 20 minutes from time that they got they're deserved equaliser. Podge Delaney scoring, like Slaney, direct from a corner. Castle pushed for a winner, but Slaney held on and the game finished 1-1. Best for castle were Eddie Davis, Patrick o Neill and Lorcan Carroll while Michael Foley, Shane Murphy and Regan Murphy played best for Slaney Rovers.

Slaney overcame a stubborn Ballytore outfit to secure top spot in the league at home on Sunday.

The Rathvilly side got off to a dream start when Eoin Curran headed home a well place free-kick from Mark Ryan on two minutes. They had chances to double their lead, but they failed to find the target. Adam Meenahan was unlucky for Mill when his shot went over the crossbar just before the break.

The visitors upped their game in the second half and Shane Quirke and Andy Horan had good chances. Slaney made sure of the points when an Eoin Curran shot was cleared into the path of Daniel O’Brien and he fired home on 78 minutes. Celtic fought bravely but couldn’t the reward their play deserved.

Best for the winners were Regan Murphy, Michael Foley and Padraig Corcoran while Brian Mackey, Shane Molloy and Shane O’Neill excelled for Mill.

The Rathvilly side made the long trip to Crettyard and came away with all three points to maintain their title challenge.

The visitors got off to a dream start when Keith Curran headed home an in-swinging corner from Paddy Farrell on six minutes. They continued to dominate and doubled their lead when Farrell squared the ball into the path of Paul Curran who shot low and hard to the far corner. The home goalie pulled off a fine save from a point-blank effort from Daniel O`Brien, only for the ball to fall kindly for Paul Curran who made no mistake from six yards to lead 3-0 at the break.

In the second half the Laois side came more into the game and Fergal Harmon was forced into two good saves to deny them a foothold into game.

Outstanding for the winners were Shane Murphy, Shane McGannon and Regan Murphy.
