A share of the points was a fair result after this exciting encounter at the Superbowl in Leighlinbridge on Sunday.

It was end to end stuff throughout the game and it was the visitors who scored first when Daniel O’Brien finished from five yards after good work by Alan Ryan and Paddy Farrell. Vale grew more into the game and were soon level when John Miley finished off a Ceilum Darcy cross on the half hour. The home side doubled their lead shortly after when Brian Doyle played in Andy Brennan to fire home. Daniel O’Brien showed that he can score from long range when the sent a pile drive to the net from 25 yards to level the scores at the break.

During the second half, the crossbar came to Vale’s rescue on two occasions when Daniel O’Brien was denied twice and Alan Ryan also hit the metal work. At the other end Fergal Harmon pulled off a brilliant save to deny Vale a winner.

Best for Slaney were Shane Murphy, Jamie Byrne and Shane McGannon while it was a battler all round team performance for Wanderers.

Dolmen came out on top between these two newly promoted team in St. Patrick’s College on Sunday.

The home side opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute when Colin Nolan set up Joe Lea to score. Celtic kept up the pressure and Nolan and Danny Thompson were causing problems for the Slaney defence. Thompson was rewarded for his efforts when he beat two defenders and slotted the ball home on 30 minutes. However, the visitors responded immediately and Paddy Farrell reduced the deficit when he finished off a cross by Eoin Curran just before the break.

The Rathvilly side began the second half on the front foot and deservedly equalised when Shane Murphy slipped in Eoin Curran to equalise on 79 minutes. Joe Lea and Conor Byrne went close for the Carlow Town side before Thompson sent a pile driver to the net following a free kick on 85 minutes to wrap up the three points.

Best for the winners were Niall Davis, Patrick O’Brien and Conor Byrne. For Slaney Shane Murphy, Regan Murphy and Shane McGannon were outstanding.

Newly promoted Rovers got their Division One campaign off to the perfect start with this comprehensive win on Sunday.

Rovers continued to dominate and a brilliant finish from Daniel O`Brien doubled their advantage on 34 minutes. The Carlow town side suffered a further setback on the stroke of half time, after some fine combination play Aaron Broughall set up Keith Curran to lead 3-0.

Both sides cancelled each other out during the second half proceeding but Harps did get the score their play deserved on 82 minutes. However, the winners had the last say when Eoin Curran found the net to see his side comfortable winners.
