Vale Wanderers 4

Vale got the better of their neighbours Nurney with this somewhat flattering result on Sunday.

The game was played in very difficult conditions from the start and the opening quarter saw Nurney on top with Gary Scully and Mick Murphy being denied by the Vale keeper. It took 15 minutes for the Leighlinbridge side to have their first real attack as Jack Tracey broke free down the wing and crossed for Jake Nolan to head just over. The first goal came on 24 minutes when Davy Dowling combined with Jack Tracey who was fouled in the box. He picked himself up and slotted home from the spot. Two minutes later Andrew Townsend rifled home a free kick from 35 yards out to put Vale 2-0 up. They were in complete control now and Padraig Hynes and Liam Ryan were dominant in midfield and made it 3-0 on 35 minutes with Davy Dowling crossing for Jake Nolan who coolly finished at the near post.

The second half was one with few chances Vale happy to keep the ball and were solid at the back with Paddy Deevy and Paddy Dowling outstanding. The fourth and final goal came 20 minutes from time when Jack Tracey beat three defenders to cross for Davy Dowling to make it a comfortable victory for Vale.

Best for Vale Padraig Hynes, Eoghan Dowling, Paddy Dowling and Billy Lennon O’Brien while for Nurney James Moore, Gary Dillon, Philip and Mick Murphy stood out.

Nurney Villa 2

Kilree came out on top after this entertaining local derby in Bagenalstown on Sunday.

The home side got off to the perfect start when David Kelly scored a great goal on four minutes. It was pretty much stalemate for the remainder of the half with both defences on top.

Nurney upped their game in the second half and were level on 65 minutes. However the home side regained their lead two minutes later when David MacDonald headed home. Five minutes later Eamon Nolan put David MacDonald through to score his second goal to give his side a 3-1 lead. John Gladney in the Kilree goal denied Nurney with two great saves but he was finally beaten on 78 minutes when Villa got in again for a second goal.

Kilree held on for three valuable points thanks to the efforts of John Gladney Jamie Wall and Stephen Salter.

Nurney Villa 3

An entertaining game this morning in Ballylinan with a tale of two halves.

The home side had a dream start when Shane Moore scored on five minutes after a great cross in from Jack Hickey. Saints kept up the pressure and Kevin Farrell got his first of the day on ten minutes after Cathal Dunne put him through goal. Gary Walsh put them further ahead two minutes later and the game seemed to be over as a contest. Kevin Farrell got a second from the penalty spot after when Shane Moore was fouled on 14 minutes while Gary Walsh scored his second of the day to complete the half time scoring 5-0 to the Saints.

Nurney had wind advantage in the second half and began to make a game of it. Niall Scully got them on the scoresheet on 48 minutes while James Moore capitalised on some slack defending to make it 5-2. Eoin Gannon scored the goal of the game with a fantastic shot from the edge of the box to put some respectability on the score line but St. Anne’s were deserving of their victory.

Best for Anne’s were Liam O’Dea, Cathal Dunne and Kevin Farrell. Best for Nurney were Michael Murphy, Gary Dillon and Niall Scully.
