Vale Wanderers 0 - 1 Ardattin Athletic FC
Vale Wanderers01Ardattin Athletic FC

Vale came out and dominated the second half and kept Ardattin pinned in their own half for much of the second half. Vale again had some half chances but couldn’t seem to get the final pass or finish to break the deadlock. Ardattin soon got back into the game and started to press the Vale defence. Robbie Byrne broke the deadlock on 68 minutes with a rocket of a shot which left Jack Rowan in the Vale goal no chance. Vale pushed hard towards the end of the 2nd half and looked dangerous from set-pieces. James Dowling had a great chance in the 87th minute with a terrific shot on target but Tobin once again pulling off a great save to keep Ardattin 1 nil in front. Some frantic defending from Ardattin saw the game out, and a hard earned 3 points in what is shaping up to be a very tight league.

Best for Ardattin were Mark Curry and James Tobin while best for Vale on the day were Jack Treacy, Liam Ryan, and Jack Rowan.

Vale Wanderers 1 - 3 Ballymurphy Celtic

Vale Wanderers 1

Ballymurphy 3

Ballymurphy showed a masterclass performance in the Superbowl on Saturday afternoon. They fell behind in the tenth minute when Vale Wanderers took an early lead through a long range strike from Aedan Byrne but weren't long claiming one back through Jack Cummins who turned the back line inside out and was brought down in the box, he then took the penalty and scored to the bottom left. Ballymurphy were well on top from here with Luke Kavanagh and Luke Fenlon in the middle dominating the play. Luke Joyce had a ball played in from the right wing by Luke Kavanagh and he took it well and placed it beyond the keeper into the top left corner from close range to give the visitors a deserved lead after 38 minutes. Ballymurphy had the wind at their backs in the second half and looked in real control while Vale only had a couple of chances but solid defending from Thomas Joyce, Michael Joyce and David Coleman kept them at bay. Jack Cummins had 2 chances within 3 minutes and hit the target but the keeper saved both times. Eoin Coleman headed a corner ball off the line and then it broke to Adam Farrell who passed to Luke Joyce who struck on the half volley with precision to beat the keeper in the last 10 minutes as Ballymurphy ran out comfortable winners. Parkville United B 1 - 7 Vale Wanderers

Parkville 1

Vale A 7

Vale started like a house on fire and after 3 minutes were 1-0 up through Sean Smithers, after good work from James Dowling and Rob Bulmer. Vale doubled their lead shortly after through a quality individual goal from Sean Smithers, who cut in from the right and fired a shot into the far top corner. Inside 15 minutes it was 3-0 to the away side, this time James Dowling sliding his strike under the keeper. Parkville pulled one back through a set piece that could have been dealt with better by Vale. Sean Smithers got his hat-trick when he scored directly from a corner, the wind fooling the goalkeeper and dropped into the top corner. Before half time Charlie Nolan got his first and Vales fifth when the Parkville keeper put it on a plate for him to tap home. Vale pushed on in the second half but a mix of poor finishing, good defending, and last ditch tackles kept the score line down. Tom Gardiner made it 6 to top off a fantastic performance with a glancing header at the back post from a corner. The introduction of the Vale subs added more life to the game and Aeden Byrne and Aaron Uzunkya we’re getting a lot of ball and causing Parkville trouble on the left flank. A freak OG from the Parkville defender finished the scoring for the game after good work by Sean Smithers. Vale were well worth the win on a windy day and the whole squad done well with Andrew Townsend, Sean Smithers, and Tom Gardiner standing out.

Deen Celtic 0 - 1 Vale Wanderers

Vale came out on top in this evenly contested encounter in Castlecomer on Sunday afternoon. Celtic were tidy in possession but it was the direct style of Vale that would create the bulk of the chances.Aoife Roche had the first real clear cut chance on 20 mins but her shot from a tight angle just missed the far post. Moments later Susan OLeary breached the Celtic defense but was denied by a wonderful last ditch tackle to keep parity. Celtic probably should have taken the lead just before the break when they were awarded a penalty but Lisa Dermody in the Vale goal did her job. Philomena Murphy was brought down at the edge of the penalty area right on half time and the subsequent free kick was well saved. The second half was starting to become a scrappy affair with balls over the top not really hurting the Celtic defense but near the death one such ball would prove decisive when Roche got on the end of one and fired her shot off only for the Celtic keeper to parry it into the path of OLeary whowas on hand to tap home and collect the three points.

Best for the victors were Shauna ONeill, Aoife Roche, Stacey Hennessy and Michelle Dermody

Killeshin FC B v Vale Wanderers
Div One 23/01 11:00
Killeshin FC B 2 - 6 Vale Wanderers

Vale started the brighter of the two teams and had a couple of half chances from Sean Smithers and Robert Bulmer but they failed to convert. Vale broke the deadlock through Sean Smithers on the 20 minute mark and they doubled their lead 3 minutes later when Rob Bulmer fired home from 25 yards. Vale were starting to take hold of the game at this stage and soon made it 3-0 when James Dowling squared for Rob Bulmer to tap into an empty net.

The second half started similar to the first with Vale enjoying much of the possession but Killeshin were the ones who got the next goal. James Brennan was tripped in the box and dusted himself down to step up and slot away the penalty to make it 1-3 which sparked hopes of a potential comeback. Unfortunately for Killeshin, Vale’s front 3 of Bulmer, Dowling, and Smithers had other ideas. Vale scored 3 goals in the next 15 minutes, Bulmer for his 3rd of the game, Smithers scoring a fine solo effort, and substitute Charlie Nolan scoring a cracking volley from the edge of the box. This put the game to bed and it could have been more if it wasn’t for a strange of excellent saves from Pierce Bregazzi in the Killeshin goal. Killeshin worked hard and pulled one back after ciaran townsend reacted quickest to Jack Rowan’s parried shot just before full time to leave the final score at 2-6.

There was a couple of fine performances from Jack Treacy, Rob Bulmer, and Liam Ryan for the away side but on the day Sean Smithers ran riot from the first whistle to the last and was unstoppable scoring 2 and assisting 3.

Crettyard United v Vale Wanderers
Ladies league 16/01 14:00
Crettyard United 9 - 1 Vale Wanderers
A very much depleted Vale unit travelled to Killeen on Sunday afternoon and met a ruthless Crettyard attack. The pace on the Crettyard wings caused all sorts of problems in the early exchanges but Lisa Dermody stood firm in the Vale goal. Crettyard finally broke the deadlock on 25 minutes through the goal machine that is Aisling Behan and 3 minutes later she added her second. Niamh Power was the focal point of the Crettyard attack and added the third when she took on the Vale defence and rifled home from just outside, the box. Deirdre O’ Shea cut in from the left and made it 4 just before the break. An injury to the Vale backline meant they had to continue with 9 and the writing was very much on the wall then.Aoife Roche and Laura Kearney put in a serious shift in midfield to keep Crettyard at bay for large parts of the second half and reduced the arrears on 60 minutes when Kearney released Roche on the Crettyard keeper to slot the ball passed her. The Vale legs were starting to tire however, and Behan got her third and then turned provider for Power to add 2 more for her hat trick. Tamara Agar playing alongside Power in attack rounded off the scoring with a brace of her own to round off a fine team display. Aoife Roche, Laura Kearney, Noleen Maher and Lisa Dermody did well for Vale

In a very competitive first half, Vale started the better on a tight pitch in the youth center in Carlow town. Vale had a great chance to open the scoring after 2 minutes, but the Castle keeper saved well from Rob Bulmer’s close-range strike. Vale had another couple of chances from the front 3 of Bulmer, Smithers and Dowling but couldn’t convert. Vale found the breakthrough when James Dowling rose highest to head home from a Sean Smithers corner. 5 minutes later and it was two, Jason Daly scoring a worldie from 25 yards into the far top left corner. Castle kicked into gear and started putting pressure on the young Vale side but was dealt with well through the excellence of Martin Bridgett and Tom Gardiner at the heart of the Vale back line which they managed to keep the home side scoreless at the break.

Vale went through the gears in the second half, and it took 10 minutes to virtually kill the game as a contest. Jack Treacy scored from the penalty spot after Sean Smithers was brought down in the area. James Dowling got his 2nd and Vale’s 4th of the game with a close range finish. Sean Smithers got in on the act and made it 5 after good work from James Dowling again. Castle's best chance fell to Tommy Kerrigan, but his shot was just outside the post. Vale saw out the game to finish with a comfortable 5 nil victory.

Vale Wanderers v Bagenalstown AFC
Div One 09/01 11:00
Vale Wanderers 4 - 1 Bagenalstown AFC

This local derby started at a frantic pace with both teams attacking in numbers. Bagenalstown started on top and had a few half chances but the Vale defence stood firm and kept them out. On the 25 minutes, Town had the ball in the vale net from a free kick from Robbie Kane which found Jimmy Cullen but it was ruled out for a hand ball. Vale had a few chances themselves but their forwards were struggling to hit the target. The home side took the lead with the best phase of the game which started from the goalkeeper and worked their way through the lines before Robert Bulmer unlocked the Bagenalstown defence with a sensational no look reversed ball into the path of Sean Smithers who slotted home. Bagenastown battled back and some great work from Eoghan Dowling and Marty Curran set Craig Fogarty up to squeeze the ball past the advancing Vale keeper. Vale took the lead again just before the half, when Martin Bridgett rose highest to head home a Podge Nolan corner to leave the sides 2-1 at the break.

Vale upped the tempo in the second half and Bagenalstown decided to drop deep and were happy to concede possession to the home side. Vale made the possession count with chance after chance and constant waves of attacks with Bagenalstown looking to counter attack at every opportunity. Vale got their 3rd goal when Jack Treacys free kick was saved by David Miley in the Town goal but James Dowling made no mistake with finishing the rebound. Vales 4th came after good play from Jack Treacy who set up Sean Smithers for his second of the game where it finished 4-1 to the home side

Best for Vale were Sean Smithers, Jason Daly, and Martin Bridgett while Paddy O Brien, Robbie Kane and Dion Wall workied hard for Bagenastown.

Dolmen Celtic v Vale Wanderers
U19 League 27/11 14:30
Dolmen Celtic 4 - 1 Vale Wanderers

Dolmen Celtic AFC 4 – 1 Vale Wanderers AFC.

On a very cold afternoon, two very good sides were involved in a very hard-fought, as both teams battled hard in the early stages of the game, but it was Dolmen who opened the scoring on twenty minutes, when Brandon Cassidy made a run from outside the box to meet the ball with flicked on header that beat the Vale keeper, in a crowded area.

Vale battled hard and found an equaliser at 1-1 and this was the score at the interval.

In the second-half Dolmen pushed on and put Vale under pressure and they won a corner and Liam Ryan sent in a fine corner kick, which found Boni and he got himself ‘head and shoulders’ above everyone else and headed the ball home from eight yards out to make the score 2 – 1.

After twenty five minutes, Liam Ryan flicked on a header to Isaac Emanuel and he scored easily, to make the score 3-1.

With only ten minutes left to play, Brandon Cassidy set up Ben Coakley, who scored with a fantastic well placed shot from just outside the box and make the fiinal score 4-1 to Dolmen.

Man of the Match was Brandon Cassidy, with his goal, an assist and his relentless work in midfield of 50/50 tackles, in midfield.

Bagenalstown started the 2nd half in control of the game but as time went on, Vale’s new system began to click, and the breakthrough came on 75 minutes. Charlie Nolan cut in from the left and whipped in a cross which rebounded off the post, Paddy McDonnell reacted first to secure the ball and set up Cormac O’Hara who fired it into the top corner from the edge of the box to put the visitors in the lead. Bagenalstown were then reduced to 10 men after 2 yellow cards, and this gave Vale the advantage. Vale’s game didn’t change and still took the game to the town, and got their just rewards when super sub Charlie Nolan finished excellently into the near post leaving the goalkeeper standing, after some good link up from Rob Bulmer & Paddy McDonnell to finish the game off. Bagenalstown had the last chance of the game when they were awarded an indirect free on the 6-yard box. Robbie Kane set Cormac Lomax who struck a shot but Vale had bodies on the line to keep the clean sheet and cleared the danger.

Best for Vale we’re Jack Treacy, Liam Ryan, with Paddy McDonnell and Charlie Nolan making a massive impact from the bench while Dion Wall, Eoghan Dowling and Trevor Nolan never stopped working for the Town.

Vale Wanderers v Hanover Harps
U19 League 20/11 14:30
Vale Wanderers 0 - 5 Hanover Harps

Vale Wanderers AFC 0-5 Hanover Harps AFC.

Both teams started brightly with some entertaining football being played from end to end, as thr two sides looked to take a hold of the game. Hanover had the best of the early chances, but they were all squandered and Vale’s best football came to an end when their final balls in, were easily dealt with by the pairing of Adam McCarron and Cillian McGrath. Hanover finally took the lead when a long through ball was latched on to by Jarno Fischer who calmly finished to the net for 0-1. This spurred on Vale whose best chance of the game came from a cross that was headed in on goal by Paul Fitzgerald, but it was brilliantly saved by Jason Brennan in Hanover’s goal, thus preventing the score. Hanover took their slender 0-1 lead into the interval. The second half seemed a more one-sided affair and Hanover added further goals through Jarno Fischer and another by Oisin Dillon to take the score to 0-3; Hanover lost their keeper Jason Brennan through injury, with striker Stephen Smith taking over and acquitted himself well in keeping a clean sheet. The goal of the game came from Dylan Doyle who hit a wonderful volley to the net to make it 0-4 and that capped off his man of the match performance. Kyle Foley completed the scoring to make it 0-5, as the game came to an end. Best for Hanover were Dylan Doyle, Vivian Nixon, Brandon Kelly and Adam McCarron, whilst standing out for Vale were Paul Fitzgerald and Shane Cowman.

Straight from kick off of the second half, Vale pressed well, won the ball back, and again it was Dylan Hand who turned provider for Cormac O’Hara to finish neatly at the near post to make it 2-1 to the home side. From here Vale took off, and once again some excellent work from Dylan Hand on the right saw him cut inside the full back and drill a shot into the far bottom corner to make it 3-1. Parkville didn’t let the heads go down and continued to hassle the vale defence. Barry Flynn thought he’d pulled one back when Dillon Kenny flicked the ball over the vale defence and Flynn expertly put it away but the referee blew for offside. Parkville’s heads dropped after this and Vale tagged on another 3 goals through Dylan Hand and Paddy McDonnell scored twice after coming off the bench to make it 6-1. Best for Vale was Dylan Hand who was directly involved in the first 4 goals and looked a real threat throughout the game while Jamie Curran, Martin Fitzgerald and Stephen Hunter were the best for Parkville.
