Vale Wanderers v Mill Celtic
10/03 14:00
Vale Wanderers 0 - 1 Mill Celtic

Vale Wanderers 0

Mill Celtic 1

Division Two champions Mill travelled to the Superbowl on Sunday and with nothing at stake it produced a very entertaining spectacle despite the conditions.

With both defences stretched in the early exchanges it would be the visitors who would strike with the only goal of the game on 20 minutes with a fine finish. Vale had their chances to get on the score sheet but just couldn’t connect with that final pass and were left frustrated.

Best for a gallant Vale were Orlando Sawyer, Carmel Cummins and Noleen Maher.

Round Tower Rovers 0 - 5 Vale Wanderers

Round Tower Rovers 0

Vale Wanderers 5

It was a day that produced virtually, every type of weather conditions in the duration of the game, with Rovers having the worst against them, as they had to contend with a gale-force wind and pouring rain, in their faces.

Despite these conditions, Rovers managed to keep Vale, at bay until the forty minute mark, when they scored two goals, the first for 0-1, from Tommy Cummins, following good work by Kieran Collins and the second for 0-2, from Tom Gardiner, who headed home a fine cross, ‘whipped in’ by Lorcan Galvin and they took that lead into the interval.

With a score of 0-2 and wind advantage in the second-half, Rovers remained hopeful of hauling back Vale’s lead, however, lo and behold the weather cleared up and ruined Rovers perceived advantage. Vale managed to carve out three more goals, one of which was an Own Goal, with another from a tidy Lorcan Galvin finish and a further one from Lorcan Galvin, with a twenty-five-yard screamer on the volley, to make the final score 0-5 to Vale.

It was a battling performance from an unlucky Rovers team, whilst standing out for Vale were Tom Gardiner, Jack Treacy and Lorcan Galvin.

New Oak Boys 0

Vale leap frogged Slaney to go top of the Division after this win over a resurgent New Oak side on Sunday.

Terrible conditions greeted both teams and as a result the first half was scrappy. The home side had the best of the chances throughout the half as Martin Bridget hit the crossbar and they also forced two goal line clearances. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Liam Ryan crossed for Davey Dowling to head home on 35 minutes.

In the second half Vale doubled their lead early through Jack Tracey. Davey Dowling then got his second of the day when he volleyed home an Andrew Townsend cross. In between the goals, Dinny Byrne made an outstanding save to keep New Oak at bay. Liam Ryan headed home the fourth from a Jack Tracey cross.

On a day of many goals, special mention to the Vale defence and goalkeeper Dinny Byrne who continued their fine run of performances.

Vale Wanderers 4 - 0 Baltinglass Town

Vale Wanderers 4

Baltinglass Town 0

Vale put themselves back into league contention with this win over Baltinglass in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The home side got off to a slow start and the visitors should have capitalised with chances from Derek Nolan and Declan Jones. When Vale did get into their stride, they caused problems for Balto down the wings. They duly took the lead following one of their raids down the flanks when a cross from the right could only be parried but the Vale forward was on hand to head home. They were soon two goals up just before the interval.

During the second half exchanges the Wicklow side tried to do a damage limitations job but the Leighlinbridge side made it 3-0 when Sean Horan deflected the ball to his own net. The winners completed the scoring in the closing minutes to secure a valuable three points.

Best for Baltinglass were Sean Horan, Graham Johnson and Karl Slater.

Vale dominated this local derby and ran out easy winners in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The home side went ahead early on when Padraig Hynes unleased an unstoppable shot from 35 yards. Craig Doyle and Andrew Townsend were dominating the midfield exchanges and they went further ahead when they were awarded a penalty on 30 minutes. John Miley stepped up and slotted the ball home for a 2-0 half time lead.

The visitors were having a rare bad day at the office and things did not improve for them in the second half. Vale increased their lead through goals from Martin Bridgett while Liam Ryan set up Lee Conran to score goal number four to wrap up the scoring.

It was an outstanding team performance from Vale with Andrew Townsend man of the match. Playing well for Kilree were Alan MacDonald, Jamie Wall and Paul Kehoe.
