Mill Celtic 2 - 3 Vale Wanderers

Mill Celtic 2

Vale Wanderers 3

Vale recorded their third win in a row in Ballytore on Sunday but as always with this team it was not without drama. Lee Conran was buzzing from the off and his hard work paid off when he opened the scoring on 15 minutes. Trevor Nolan played Conran in who finished well from a tight angle. Vale went on to create many chances but failed to convert further in the first half and paid the price as Mill Celtic levelled before half time. Daniel Mackey with the cross to Felix Lawlor who hit a stunning first-time volley into the net for the equaliser.

Half time score 1-1

The second half was a very even contest with both teams scoring and creating further chances. Emmet Casey gave the visitors the lead for the second time in the match when he went on a barging run through midfield and after a series of passes finished the move he started when he slotted home from a through ball by Lee Conran. Again, Vale let their lead slip after failing to deal with Daniel Mackey’s long ball to Jason McHugh who slotted home to leave the score line at 2-2 with 20 minutes left. It looked like the home side would take the spoils when Felix Lawlor played a through ball for Adam Meenahan who's effort beat the keeper, but the defender managed to clear off the line. Vale were the side to get that decisive goal when on 85 minutes Andrew Townsends perfect corner kick landed at the back post and John Miley arrived like a runaway train to volley home and take the spoils for the visitors. Best for Mill Celtic, Gary Lambe, Shane Molloy and Dylan Wynne.

Vale picked up their first league win of the season in a thriller at The Superbowl on Sunday.

Andy Brennan opened the scoring on 15 minutes after Craig Doyle sprinted through the Crettyard defence and laid off to Brennan to tap home. Vale conceded two soft goals against the run of play which would leave them trailing 2-1 at half time.

The home side started the second half well and their pressure told when Craig Doyle played Andrew Townsend through to nick it past the keeper on 52 minutes. The home side took the lead when Brian Doyle set up Andy Brennan on 60 minutes. However, Crettyard levelled to make it 3-3. The home team retook the lead with Andy Brennan getting his hat trick on 75 minutes following an excellent through ball by Andrew Townsend. Vale seemed to have secured the points on 80 minutes when goalkeeper Ger Kieran launched the ball down field for Andy Brennan to get on the end of and he duly obliged. The visitors once again came back into the game to make it 5-4. On 90 minutes Craig Doyle set up Andy Brennan up for his fifth goal of the day to secure victory.

Youngster Billy Lennon O’Brien continued his run of games with the first team and another young player Eoghan Dowling made his first team debut late on.

New Oak Boys 6 - 1 Vale Wanderers

Despite these set-backs Vale tried hard to contain New Oak and they kept them at bay until 24 minutes into the game, with a mixture of good goalkeeping and robust defending, however, New Oak’s prolific goal scorer, Greg Sykula, opened the scoring for 1-0 and on 30 minutes, he scored his second and New Oak took their 2-0 lead into the interval.
The second-half was all New Oak and after only five minutes, Ross Townsend made it 3-0 and two minutes later Greg Sykula, scored again for 4-0 and completed his hat-trick to boot, when he found himself ‘one on one’ with the Vale keeper and calmly rounded him to score.
Sheamus Farrell made it 5-0 to New Oak, when he scored with a header from a Ken Lacey corner, however, Vale showed great spirit, by never giving up and Pa Dowling scored for Vale with a fine strike from outside the area to make it 5-1, but it proved to be just a consolation, as Ross Townsend scored his second with ten minutes to go and make the final score 6-1.
It was a comprehensive victory for New Oak Boys, with a fine team effort, whilst it was a battling performance from Vale, with Dave Collins and Mick Nevin, standing out for them.

Vale Wanderers 1 - 5 Raheny United

Vale Wanderers 1

Raheny United 5

Carlow side Vale exited the Leinster Cup at the hands of Premier AUL outfit Raheny in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The score line was very harsh on a gallant Vale side who started brightly. Eoin Johnson played in Andy Brennan but his effort was just wide. Having had the better of the exchanges they were undone by a defensive mistake which led to the opening goal. They visitors began to find their range and were 2-0 before the break.

The home side battled hard in the second half but the Dublin side were more clinical and ran in three more goals. Yonnie Johnson scored for Vale after some good work by Andrew Townsend.

Best for Vale were Martin Bridgett, John Miley and Eoin Johnson.
