Mill Celtic made their final home game of the season a winning one with this victory over the Carlow town side.

The early exchanges were quite tense with neither side threatening. The visitors broke the deadlock with a long ball over the top by Gary Murphy which allowed Martin to race in behind and lob over the advancing Harry Kirwan. The home side created a number of chances through Dylan Wynne, Brian Malone and Shane Molloy but they could find the net with their respective efforts.

The second half began with Mill looking like a team on a mission and their fast start was rewarded after 52 minutes when a long raking pass from Gary Lambe found Daniel Mackey who in turned played through Wynne to slot home the equaliser. With the Mill back four being resolute at the back the same two players combined for Wynne to grab his second with a superb finish on 64 minutes. Daniel O’Boyle was denied by a great save by Kirwan that kept the home side in command and the game was wrapped up with ten minutes to go when Andrew Baldwin grabbed a deserved goal after the Rangers keeper spilled a Brian Mackey free kick.

Best for Mill on the day were Gary Lambe, Brian Malone and Dylan Wynne. For Castle Cian Connolly, Mick McGrath and Alan Butler stood out.

Castle Rangers grabbed a late equaliser to share the points with their Tullow counterparts in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

After an even enough start Parkville began to get on top with James Lonergan and John Murphy combining well and Jason Hunter had a goal ruled out for an infringement. Brian Condron and Paddy Hickey went close before Damian Bak made a good save at the other end to deny Rangers. The visitors finally made the breakthrough when T.J. Kavanagh sent a free kick to the top corner on 40 minutes.

The second half was again a close encounter with both sides creating chances. David Orbinski saw his effort ruled out for offside while the same player was denied by a great save by Mick Lawlor in the Castle goal. Parkville’s Cian Madden made his long-awaited return from injury and combined with Padraig McGrath to drop an inch perfect pass to Barry Flynn who saw his effort saved. With time running out Gary Murphy scored on the counterattack to rescue a point for the home side.

Best for Castle were Cain Connolly, Yona Samuel and Rory MacDonald. Best for Parkville were Jason Hunter, Paddy Hickey and TJ Kavanagh.

Kilree remain on course for league honours with this win against a depleted Castle in Bagenalstown on Sunday.

The home side started the quickest and the Rangers keeper was on hand to deny Alan MacDonald on 16 minutes. Mark MacDonald was also denied on 28 minutes. At the other end Gary Murphy saw his header just clear the cross bar. The home side got the breakthrough when Alan Salter was through on goal but he was taken down for a penalty he dusted himself down and slotted home on 34 minutes. Salter then turned provider as he set up Jamie Wall to score just before the break.

It didn’t take long for the Bagenalstown side to increase their lead David MacDonald was taken down for another penalty which Salter duly dispatched on 47 minutes. The visitors came more into the game but failed to capitalise in front of goal. The winners finished out the game with goals from David Kelly and Alan MacDonald to seal victory.

Best for the winners were Victor Watkins, Eamon Nolan and Mark MacDonald. Players of note for Castle were Rory McDonnell, Mick McGrath and Jose Sousa.

The Laois side came out on top following this entertaining encounter in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

The visitors raced into the lead when Luke Phillips netted after eight minutes. They doubled their lead on 15 minutes this time John Dwyer added the finish after a good move. The same player capitalised on a defensive mix up to make it 3-0 just before the break.

The home side played much better in the second half and created a number of chances. They were finally rewarded for their efforts when Yona scored on 65 minutes. Crettyard withstood the pressure from Rangers and made the points safe with a fine solo effort from Luke Philips.

Best for the winners were Luke Phillips, Kyle Rich and John Dwyer while Michael McGrath and Jose Sousa stood out for Castle.

Rangers came out on top in this relegation six-pointer in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

Fiacc’s will be scratching their heads how they did not win this game despite dominating from the very first whistle. Despite creating a host of chances, they fell behind when Castle’s Mick McGrath scored from distance on ten minutes. The Graiguecullen side were soon level when Brian O’Rourke scored in similar fashion with a super strike from the edge of the area.

Both sides created a number of chances in a very entertaining second half but it was the home side who emerged with all three points when Gary Murphy chipped the Saints keeper with just five minutes remaining. Fiacc’s had a big shout for a penalty in the last minute but things didn’t pan out for them.

Players of note for Rangers were Rory MacDonald and Cian Connolly while David Hurley, Shane Aylward and Brian O’Rourke were best for Fiacc’s.

Vale got the better of Castle Rangers when they returned to action following the Christmas break at the Superbowl on Sunday.

The home side controlled large periods of the first half but struggled to pull away from a solid Castle side. Lee Conran hit the woodwork from distance while Sean Smithers and Willie Kavanagh also went close during this period of dominance. They finally broke the deadlock when John Miley hit a low hard free kick which beat the keeper from an acute angle.

The second half saw the Leighlinbridge side create more chances but it was the visitors who equalised when Danny O’Boyle’s free kick was headed on by Alan McDermott and Gary Murphy pounced to score on the hour mark. Vale retook the lead ten minutes later when Craig Doyle launched a long a ball forward, which John Miley and Lee Conran combined to release Craig Doyle who continued his run and finished past the keeper. Vale were flying now and John Miley sealed the game when he finished from close range.

Outstanding for the winners were John Miley Lee Conran and Sean Smithers while Mick Lawlor and Alan Butler were players of note for Rangers.

New Oak’s second string continue their winning ways as they knocked Castle Rangers out of the Carlow Cup on Sunday.

First half exchanges were very even steven with both defences dominating and very few clear-cut chances were created. The home side had the best chance of the half when Danny O’Boyle just missed the target on 30 minutes.

The second half opened up somewhat with both sides beginning to find their shooting boots but again it was not until 60 minutes that the deadlock was broken. It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Chris Bermingham saw his shot parried by the keeper but Sol Yabre was on hand to slot home. The Burrin Road outfit soon doubled their lead on 70 minutes when Bermingham’s free kick was flicked onto the crossbar but Boni Milrou was on hand to head home from close range. Castle finally got their act together and pulled a goal back when Gary Murphy finished off a fine move. However, they failed to break down a resolute New Oak defence which saw the latter side advance to the next round.

Outstanding for the winners were Keenan Geoghegan, Chris Bermingham and Daniel Hayden while best for Castle Rangers were Mick Lawlor and Rory McDonald.

New Oak Boys second string recorded their first win of the season in this bottom of the table clash in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

In a tightly contested first 15 minutes it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when Sol Yabre scored with a neat finish to the bottom corner of the net. The home side responded positively and were level ten minutes later when Gary Murphy scored. Both sides battled it out for the remainder of the half but it ended all square.

The second half saw New Oak take control of proceedings and scored two quick fire goals when Mick Curran scored from close range and a superbly struck free kick by Chris Bermingham to the top corner of the net. Castle fought back and Tunde Ogunfowora scored to reduce the deficit but Mick Curran got on the scoresheet again just before the final whistle to leave the score 4-2 in their favour and a vital three points that could be crucial come the end of the season.

Outstanding for the winners were Chris Bermingham, Sol Yabre and Mick Curran. Players of note for Castle were Mick Lawlor and Alan Butler.

Kilree maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with this away win against Rangers in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

The visitors started the better and Alan McDonald found Peter Abbey whose shot rattled the crossbar in the third minute. Two minutes later Alan Salter was unlucky as his shot hit the post. The Bagenalstown side took a deserved lead when Gary Dillon set up Alan McDonald to score on eight minutes. They continued to dominate and good work by Paul Kehoe and David McDonald was finished to the net by the latter to round off a great team goal to leave his side 2-0 at the break.

Castle started the second half in a more determined mood and a great save by John Gladney in the Celtic goal denied them reducing the deficit. Kilree began to get back on top and Peter Abbey and Alan McDonald combined to set up Gary Dillon to score at the back post on 63 minutes. Eamonn Nolan set up Alan McDonald to score his second on 74 minutes to make it 4-0. Kilree rang the changes then and only for some good saves by John Gladney kept the Carlow town side at bay.

It was an all-round good performance by the winners with Alan Mc Donald, Stephen Salter and Gary Dillon stand out players.

Fiacc’s started the game brightly and were on the front foot early with great link up play between Bobby Doyle, James Hickey and Oisin Ayers and were in command and creating chances. It wasn't until the 30 minute before they took the lead from an excellent strike from Doyle from 25 yards. The second half was much the same with Fiacc’s well on top but didn't extend their lead until the 70th minute with a good finish from Ross Hennessy. The game was put to bed 5 minutes later when Ross was taken down in the penalty area and cooly slotted home the resulting penalty. A very good all round team performance but players of note for Fiacc’s were Darren Murnane, Bobby Doyle, James Hickey, Wayne Humphries. Best for Castle were Keane Drea and Mick McGrath

Castle Rangers put their recent poor form behind them when they recorded this single goal victory over arch-rivals Crettyard on Sunday.

The first half was very even with both sides creating some great football. The visitors took the lead on 30 minutes when good play by Gabriel Samuel and David Olaleye was finished to the net by Yona Samuel to give his side the lead at the interval.

Crettyard dominated the second half exchanges but could not find the breakthrough their play deserved. Rangers were relying on the counterattack but they failed to add to their goal but held on to secure all three points.

Best for the winners were Mick Lawler, Cian Connolly and Jose Souza while for Crettyard Sean O’Shea, James Sherwood and Luke Ramsbottom.

Vale travelled to the Youth Centre on Sunday and came away with all three points.

The visitors started well and forced a number of corners early on. However, the home side seized the initiative when David Olaleye opened the scoring on 10 minutes. The following exchanges were even enough before Vale began to get a foothold with Willie Kavanagh and Lee Conran combining to set up Jack Tracey to blast home on 32 minutes. Soon after Sean Smithers had them in front when he finished off a move, he began on 35 minutes. The home side never gave up and Gabriel Samuel grabbed an equaliser just before the break.

The Leighlinbridge side dominated the early second half period and Andrew Townsend played in Lee Conran to fire home to the bottom corner to take the lead again. Rangers to the credit never gave up but could not get that vital break through. For the Leighlinbridge side Willie Kavanagh and Sean Smithers went close before making 4-2 late on when Padraig Noland was played in and he found the top corner to wrap up the points.

Outstanding for the winner were Sean Smithers, Lee Conran and Willie Kavanagh while Gabriel Samuel, Rory McDonald and Cian Connolly were played of the note for Rangers

The Ballytore side travelled to Carlow for a second week in a row and came away with all three points in this lively encounter at the Youth Centre on Sunday.

The visitors took the lead as early as the tenth minute with a superb strike from Ben Flood before Gary Murphy equalised shortly after. The Kildare side upped the tempo and were 3-1 up at the break thanks to goals from James Fahey and Fionn O’Rourke.

The Carlow side were dominating the early exchanges of the second half and Danny Purcell reduced the deficit with 15 minutes remaining. However, they suffered a setback when they were reduced to ten men and a resilient Ballitore side held out for all three points with standout performances coming from James Fahey, Harry Kirwan, and Euan Cullen.

Best for Castle were Mick McGrath and Rory Mac.

Baltinglass got their new campaign off to a flying start with this emphatic victory at home against Castle.

After a battling first half the home side took the lead when Eoin Gleason fired home on 38 minutes, and they took this lead into the break.

The Wicklow side doubled their lead within three minutes of the restart when Shane Lennon converted a penalty. The Carlow town side were awarded a penalty of their own 15 minutes later, but Jason Sinnott pulled off a great save to deny them. Dylan Gately piled on more misery for Rangers when he slotted home from close range on 70 minutes. Johnny Donegan added another goal shortly after to make it 4-0. Rangers frustrating began to tell, and they conceded another penalty with five minutes to go and Shane Lennon stepped up to score his second goal of the game to put the game to bed.

Best for Balto were Emilio Faulkner, Adam Martin and Jordan West.

The visitors went in front with a Trevor Nolan goal to leave them 1-0 in front at the break.

During the course of the second half Mattie Curran’s hard work paid off as he found the net to make it 2-0. Tom Lynch added a third and settled the game with twenty minutes to go. Castle pulled one back late on.

Crettyard came out top in this Cup encounter between these two mid-table sides in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

The home side got off to the perfect start when Daniel O’Boyle scored on ten minutes. The exchanges were even after this with both sides creating chances. The visitors levelled matters on 30 minutes when John Dwyer capitalised on a mistake by the Castle keeper for a simple tap in. The Laois side took the lead five minutes later when Dwyer was fouled on the edge of the box and Willie Kavanagh scored from the resultant free kick. The Carlow side bounced back and were on level terms when Patrick O’Neill slotted home from the penalty spot.

The home side were dealt a blow early in the second half when Crettyard went ahead on 55 minutes after Ronan O’Reilly played in Willie Kavanagh and he slotted home. Shortly after things got worse for the home side as the visitors made it 4-2. Dwyer was on hand again to head home a John Graham cross following a corner kick on 60 minutes. Castle battled hard and had plenty of chances through O’Boyle, Damian Hackett and Mick McGrath but the Crettyard keeper performed heroics on the day which saw his side advance to the next round.

Outstanding for the winners were Pa Brennan, John Dunphy, Willie Kavanagh, John Dwyer and man of the match John Graham. Best for Castle were Paddy O’Brien, Jose Souza and Danny Purcell.

Castle Rangers had a good away win in Nurney although the score line might be a bit flattering as the home side were well in the game up to the last 20 minutes.

The Carlow town side got off to a great start as Paddy O’Neill scored after five minutes. The remainder of the half was very evenly matched with Alan McDermott hitting the bat for the visitors before the break.

Nurney stepped it up in the second half but were denied a couple of goal chances thanks to some good Rangers defending. Damian Hackett doubled his side’s lead before Paddy O’Neill grabbed his second to wrap up the points.

Outstanding for the winners were Dermot O’Boyle, Roy Pearson and Caillin Canning. Best for Nurney Dan Kearney, Mick Murphy and Eoin Gannon.

Kilree did their promotion chances a power of good with this hard-earned win in the Youth Centre on Sunday.

The Bagenalstown side got off to flying start on six minutes when Mark MacDonald crossed for David MacDonald to score to make it one nil. It was even after this, but the visitors struck again when a cross by Paul Kehoe was met by Mark MacDonald to head home on 45 minutes to leave them 2-0 up at the break.

Kilree started the second half as they did the first and a great cross by Eamon Nolan on 55 minutes set up David MacDonald to score his second goal with a header. Kilree were reduced to ten men on 70 minutes and the home side reduced the deficit when Damien Hackett scored. Rangers continued to battle to the end but could not breach the Celtic defence.

Best for the winners were Paul Kehoe, Jamie Wall and Stephen Salter. Best for Castle were Danny O’Boyle, Roy Pearson and Dermot O’Boyle.

Castle got back to winning ways with this flattering victory over Baltinglass in a wet and windy Youth Centre on Sunday.

The home side got off to a great start and Paddy O’Brien put them in front when he headed home a Jose Souza corner on ten minutes. The visitors were relying on their counter attack, but the Rangers defence stood firm. Castle doubled their lead when Danny O’Boyle’s shot could only be parried, and Eddie Dooley was quickest to react to slot the ball home. Michael McGrath made it 3-0 before the break.

Baltinglass started the second half in better form and created a few half chances but could not convert them. Eddie Davis saw his long-range shot find the net to put the game beyond Balto on the hour mark. Keith O’Dwyer finished off the scoring from the penalty spot to wrap up the points.

Best for the winners were Dermot O’Boyle, Roy Pearson and Cian Connolly while for Baltinglass John Martin, Sean Horan and Derek Nolan were players of note.
