Killeshin FC 1

In an entertaining affair the spoils were shared in Ballymurphy between two even teams.

Killeshin had the best of the opening bouts, but Ballymurphy capitalised on a loose ball from a corner and Tina Kavanagh made no mistake from close range to give the hosts the lead before half-time.

Both teams had chances in the second half before Killeshin equalised through a strike from Bláthnaid Wall. In a competitive half of football, both teams had good chances to take the lead, with Ballymurphy hitting the woodwork twice in the space of five minutes. A good point for both sides who have shown massive improvement in the last few weeks.

Best for Killeshin were Ciara Townsend, Bláthnaid Wall and Kim Nolan while Tina Kavanagh, Catriona Scully and Rachael Murphy served Ballymurphy well.

St Patrick's Boys 1

Celtic picked up their first win of the season as new manager Mikey Whelan hit the ground running.

The hosts are still seven points adrift at the bottom but have eight games left to try avoid relegation. After dominating from the start, Ballymurphy deservedly went ahead on 15 minutes, Tom O’Neill’s low shot finding the bottom corner for 1-0. Pat’s began to find their stride but struggled to create anything in front of goal as solid defending kept them at bay. Having absorbed the pressure Celtic struck for a second time five minutes before half time, Jamie Doyle’s free kick powerfully headed home by Thomas Doyle.

Shortly after the restart the game was as good as over when Celtic made it 3-0, Paul Traynor and Declan Brennan combining well to set up Kevin Foley, his sweetly struck half volley finding the roof of the net on 55 minutes. Thereafter Celtic were content to allow Pat’s come at them but a late free kick, brilliantly struck by Liam Byrne, was mere consolation for the visitors as Celtic easily held on for their first three pointer this season.

Best for Ballymurphy were Anto Jordan, Thomas Doyle and Ben Coleman. Pat’s best included Liam Byrne, Anto Lawlor, Mark Delaney and Chris Gaul.

St Fiacc’s 6

St Fiacc’s had the better of the early exchanges but it took them until 27 minutes to break the deadlock when Kate McDonald was on hand to score.

Ballymurphy were still in the game until the hour mark until three quick fire goals put the game to bed from Kate McDonald, Clara Hayden and Courtney Forbes. Ballymurphy pulled one back when they were awarded a penalty and Kate Drennan made no mistake. McDonald would go on to complete a second half hat trick to book their place in the hat.

Kate McDonald, Sara Kerfah and Sinead Hayden did well for Fiacc’s while best for Ballymurphy were Emma Cooper, Kate Drennan and Laura Murphy.

This was cracking cup game on Sunday morning with numerous twists and turns.

Bagenalstown took lead on 12 minutes after a great strike from Trevor Nolan found the bottom corner, but Ballymurphy responded fast and a low Thomas Doyle shot from 12 yards proved too hot to handle to make it one all. Bally dominated the rest of the half and could have easily went three or four goals up but for missed chances. Bally took the lead on 23 minutes when a pinpoint Thomas Doyle cross found Deccy Brennan who cushioned his delicate header to the bottom corner. Then on 40 minutes confusion in the Town box led to an OG from pressure from Brennan again to leave the home team 3-1 up at half time.

Bagenalstown came roaring out in second half and were level by 60 minutes with two good goals, the first from Matty Curran finishing after great work from Craig Fogarty and then Fogarty teed up Trevor Nolan for his second and game level. Bally then got back in front when Doyle flicked on to Evan's Wallace who side footed home on 75 minutes. Bagenalstown then levelled on 80 minutes when a super free from David Miley found Paddy O’Brien at the back to level up things at four all with ten minutes left. There was still time for a winner and what a winner it was as Dion Wall broke free and chipped the oncoming Ballymurphy keeper. Bally laid siege to the Town goal and with the last kick a Thomas Doyle bicycle kick was brilliantly saved and it ended 4-5. A cracking game of football.

Best for Bally were Paul Foley, Thomas Doyle and Deccy Brennan. Bagenalstown now march to the next round with great performances from Brian Murphy, Craig Fogarty and Paddy O’Brien.
