Newpark AFC 2 - 1 Ballymurphy Celtic

Newpark FC 2

Ballymurphy Celtic 1

This was Newpark's first game back since November and it showed as they were very rusty from the start.

Ballymurphy took full advantage of that and took the lead after 20 minutes through Michelle Kelly. This spurred Newpark into action who started pressing the Ballymurphy goal and this pressure paid off when Newpark equalised just on the stroke of half time when Ebony Masuku latched onto a loose ball and buried it into the bottom corner of the net. Both teams went in search of a winner and as a result would lead to an entertaining half.

In the 75th minute Newpark had a great chance when a ball over the top was collected by Denise Doyle and was unlucky to slot it inches wide of the post. Ballymurphy had a good chance that was saved by Jayne Meagher in the Newpark goal. Then with 7mins to go a free kick swung in by Abbie Wall was bundled over the line by Kellyanne Moran. That's the way the game ended and Newpark were by happy to collect their first three points of the new year.

Best for the winners were Abbie Wall, Denise Doyle, Rosie Miller and Ebony Masuku while Emma Cooper, Ann Murphy and Stacey Hennessy did well for Ballymurphy.

Thomastown United 3

Ballymurphy Celtic 0

Thomastown kept their hopes for Division One honours alive with an emphatic victory over a gallant Ballymurphy side.

Thomastown were in front in the second minute when an excellent passing move found Eva Haynes out wide and her first-time delivery into the box found Lauren McCormack who in turn steered it home from close range. Ten minutes later they were two up when Jenny Brennan expertly dispatched a 20-yard free kick to the top corner. Ballymurphy started the second half much the better and created some good chances but were unable to convert any of them. Then in the 75th minute Ballymurphy were undone from a counterattack when Eva Haynes chipped the on rushing bally keeper to secure the points.

Holly Brennan, Caoimhe Woods and Lisa Carey did well for Thomastown while Ann Murphy and Emma Cooper stood firm for Bally.

Evergreen v Ballymurphy Celtic

Evergreen 1 - 5 Ballymurphy Celtic

Evergreen FC 1

Ballymurphy Celtic 5

Ballymurphy proved too strong for a very young Evergreen unit on Sunday despite having made the most positive of starts.

In the 38th minute Evergreen were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, up stepped Saoirse Comerford who produced a fantastic save from Stacey Hennessy but Kia McCallum was on hand to put away the rebound. The Ballymurphy response was swift and were level five minutes later when Tina Kavanagh was on hand to fire home from close range.

Ballymurphy started the second half much the stronger and were soon two goals clear when Tina Kavanagh rounded off an impressive hat trick. Katie Drennan worked tirelessly for Ballymurphy all day and got her reward on 75 minutes with a tidy finish and Michelle Kelly slotted home the final score of the game late on.

It was an excellent team performance from Ballymurphy while Saoirse Comerford, Maeve Mansfield and Kia McCallum did well for Evergreen.

Slaney Rovers v Ballymurphy Celtic
Premier Division 05/01 11:00
Slaney Rovers 4 - 1 Ballymurphy Celtic

Slaney Rovers 4

Ballymurphy Celtic 1

Rovers impressive home record continues as Celtic became the latest team to leave Rathvilly pointless.

The visitors began well enough with Declan Brennan going close with an early header but two quick goals for the hosts rocked them on their heels. 15 minutes in and Aaron Broughall’s corner was headed home by Daniel O’Brien for the opening score. It got better for Rovers five minutes later as Mick Foley applied the finishing touch to a superb centre from Seanie Furlong. Celtic responded well and will count themselves unlucky not to have got on the scoresheet before the break, Brennan again going close before Kevin Foley was denied by a fine stop from the Slaney keeper on the stroke of half time.

Ballymurphy were on the front foot early in the second half but despite creating good openings for both Anto Jordan and Alan Curran they couldn’t convert and with 20 minutes left Rovers made them pay dearly. Eoin Curran and Dominic Byrne carved open the Celtic rear guard for Daniel O’Brien to net his second and Rovers third to make it 3-0. With five minutes left on the clock Celtic did finally convert a chance, Anto Jordan netting to reduce the arrears but any notions of a comeback were quickly dashed as Kyle Byrne finished off the scoring for Rovers to make it 4-1 at the final whistle.

Colm O’Connor, Eoin Curran and Stephen Farrell impressed for the winners while Ben Coleman, Anto Jordan and Declan Brennan were best for Celtic.
