Killeshin progressed into the next round of the KCLR Shield with a convincing win over Celtic Stars. The visitors started well and were in front early on through a Paul Nolan strike on 15 minutes. The hosts were back in the game on the half hour when Eoin Lowry converted a free kick on the edge of the box for 1-1. This goal seemed to spark new life into Killeshin and when James Doogue broke down the right wing his perfect cross was met at the back post by the in running Declan Bolton to make it 2-1 to Killeshin at half time. The second half saw Killeshin apply the early pressure and they when 3-1 ahead when a long ball from James Doogue deceived the stars keeper and ended up in the net. Stars continued to battle to couldn't prise open the Killeshin defence and the hosts were assured of their passage to the quarter finals when Declan Bolton pounced on a loose ball to make it 4-1 late on and reward the efforts of Vinny Dowling, Shane Coakley and Kevin Ryan. Honours were even after this goal fest in Clonegal on Sunday morning. The visitors got off to a flyer and were 2-0 ahead inside 10 minutes with goals from Brian Maguire and Conor Clack. The hosts were back in the game when Mark Egan converted a penalty on 20 minutes, but St Pats reply was to score 2 more. Jordan Harmon made it 3-1 after been released on goal by John O'Neill and when Conor Clack set up Gearoid Cuddihy for number 4 on 35 minutes the visitors must have thought the points were secure, but Stars responded again, and Alan Nolan scored to leave it 4-2 to Pats at half time. The early stages of the second half was all Celtic and Egan converted his second penalty of the game to reduce the arrears further before Brendan levelled matters with 20 minutes still to play. Having blown a 3-goal lead, St Pats set about trying to win the game for a second time and must have thought they had done just that when Harmon netted his second to put the visitors 5-4 ahead with a couple of minutes remaining. Celtic wouldn't be denied however and with the game in added time Behan struck again to level it and earn Stars their first point of the season to reward the efforts of Alan Nolan. Brendan Behan and Peter Ryan. Best for Pats were Conor Clack, Frank Fanning and Jordan Harmon

Parkville United v Celtic Stars
Premier Division 15/10 11:00
Parkville United 2 - 1 Celtic Stars

Parkville United 2

Celtic Stars 1

Parkville claimed their first win of the season, striking late to condemn Stars to a fifth straight defeat which leaves the bottom of the table and pointless.

The first half was goalless but not without action. Parkville had the ball in the net after 20 minutes but Ronan Byrne saw his effort ruled offside. Conor McCarney and Jamie Welsh both saw efforts well saved by the Stars net minder as half time approached.

Parkville introduced fresh legs at half time and this paid off within ten minutes when McCarney crossed for sub Will Doran to net on 55 minutes. With United pushing men forward they left themselves exposed at the back and Stars levelled on 70 minutes through a great strike from Brendan Behan. It appeared that would be enough for Stars to secure a first point of the season but with just three minutes left on the clock McCarney combined with Doran again to net United a winner and a first win in this season’s league.

Best for United were Rory O’Connor and Jack Kennedy while Stars had good showings from Peter Ryan, Niall Byrne and Brendan Behan.

Stars started well and inside ten minutes Senan Finucan crossed in the ball which was only cleared as far as Martin Byrne, who shot from 20 yards, only to see his shot go just wide.

William Dixon then crossed a ball to the back post on 18 minutes to Senan Finucan who headed wide and then on 25 minutes, Dale Austin chipped in a free-kick and William Dixon got on the end of it, but his shot was well saved by Joey’s keeper.

Half-time came with a 0-0 score line, with Joey’s having been under pressure throughout the first-half.

After only seven minutes of the second-half, Eoin Devlin found William Dixon and he shot from 20 yards, which took a wicked deflection, over the Joey’s keeper, to make it 0-1 to Stars.

Then on 11 minutes, Joey’s had an escape, as Piotr Zaborniak crossed to Martin Byrne, whose header smacked against the crossbar and rebound to safety, but on 16 minutes Tony D’Arcy broke the Joey’s offside trap to ‘bury’ the ball home for 0-2.

Four minutes later, Dale Austin, played a ball down the line to William Dixon, who saw the Joey’s keeper, off his line and put in a great chip over him, to find the net for 0-3.

Joey’s pulled a goal back, but it was merely a consolation and the game ended in a comfortable 1-3 victory to Stars.

It was a battling performance from an outclassed St Joseph’s and standing out for Stars were Eddie Byrne, Eoin Devlin and William Dixon.
