Crettyard United v Killeshin FC
Premier Division 08/03 11:00
Crettyard United 3 - 1 Killeshin FC

Crettyard United 3

Killeshin FC 1

United hauled themselves right back into the title race as three second half goals saw them claim the points and leave Killeshin looking over their shoulders as Ballymurphy’s win in Tullow leaves them just four points off the bottom.

The first half was a story of missed chances from both sides. Killeshin’s Adam Steed fired over when well-placed after 15 minutes. It was then United’s turn to waste chances, Gearoid Cuddihy and Lee Salter both off target for the hosts. The best chance of the half fell to Killeshin and Michael O’Rourke but he managed to clear the crossbar from six yards.

Crettyard were much better in the second half and opened the scoring on the hour. Danny Doyle raced through midfield before being felled in the box for a penalty which he duly converted to put the hosts 1-0 up. That advantage was doubled 15 minutes later, Craig Comerford’s corner firmly headed to the net by Lee Salter for 2-0. Steed headed narrowly wide as Killeshin tried to respond and with five minutes left they were thrown a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty, converted by Steed. Thoughts of a comeback were dashed almost immediately as Cristoir Maher teed up Salter for his second and United’s third with a neat lob over the advancing keeper to put the result beyond doubt.

Best for Crettyard were Lee Salter, Danny Doyle and Gearoid Cuddihy. Killeshin had good performances from Ian Brennan, Michael O’Rourke, Niall Scully and Brendan McDonald.

Killeshin FC 2 - 5 Hanover Harps

Killeshin AFC 2

Hanover Harps 5

In light of the extremely windy conditions this encounter was distinctly a game of two halves with Killeshin taking first advantage of the wind.

Killeshin’s Dylan Regan put Killeshin 1-0 up on 23 minutes with a finely taken goal from just inside the penalty area and they went on to double their lead when they took advantage of a lapse in the Hanover defence led to them going 2-0 ahead courtesy of an own goal and that was the score, at the interval.

Hanover had a lot to do to redeem themselves and they were quickly into their stride as on 47 minutes Ryan Brady set up Kian Lawlor who rifled the ball into the bottom corner of the Killeshin net from all of thirty yards for 2-1 and from then it was game on. Eoghan Byrne added a second for Hanover on 53 minutes to level the scores at 2-2 when he scored from a rebound when the Killeshin keeper parried away a Shane Murphy header. At this stage it was all Hanover as Corey Connolly, Kyle Foley, Robert Norton and Jake Haughney set up attack after attack from the back as they overwhelmed Killeshin. With only fifteen minutes to go some neat interplay between Eoghan Byrne and Arnus Ubartas set up Kian Lawlor to volley home his second for his brace and put Hanover into a 2-3 lead, for the first time. On 83 minutes a long throw by Theo Hagelstein was flicked on by Shane Murphy to Kian Lawlor who finished with aplomb for his hat-trick and a 2-4 lead. Kian Lawlor then returned the favour as with a cushioned header he set up Shane Murphy who rounded off the scoring with a fine volley to finish off the scoring and give Hanover a well-deserved 2-5 victory.

Hanover’s second-half five goal tally showed just what they are capable of when in the mood and although Killeshin put up a strong showing they were no match for Hanover on this form.

Mill Celtic 4 - 1 Killeshin FC

Mill Celtic 4

Killeshin FC 1

Mill started the game with the wind in their backs and played some lovely football in the opening exchanges.

It took until the half hour to break the deadlock when a Deirbhle Byrne corner caused panic in the Killeshin box and eventually Rachael Fennin slotted home from close range. The second came shortly after with good work from Pam and Megan Grufferty slipped in Nicole Heaney and her first time cross found Mag Nolan at the back post.

The second half was evenly contested until 20 minutes from time when Catherine Dempsey broke the offside trap and chipped the advancing keeper. Dempsey would soon have her second when she tapped home a Fennin cross. Killeshin got a deserved consolation late on when Aoife O’Rourke found the net to reward the efforts of Sophia Hade and Fiona Culleton while Donna Corcoran, Shona Fagan, Ash Woods and Emma Dunne impressed for the winners.

Killeshin FC 2 - 5 Vale Wanderers

Killeshin AFC 2

Vale Wanderers 5

An under-strength Killeshin team were well beaten by table toppers Vale Wanderers who continued their fine run in search of the Championship.

Vale quickly went 0-3 up before Killeshin pulled a goal back through Daniel Core who got on the end of a free-kick and volleyed home to make it 1-3 and that was the score at the interval.

Killeshin started the brighter in the second half but Vale extended their lead to 1-4 with another goal. Killeshin reacted well to this further reverse as Mikey Dempsey was on hand to nod home a fine cross from Herbert Mazur, to make it 2-4. Vale never stopped pressing and near the end they scored again to make the final score 2-5 and maintain their lead at the top of the table.

Best for Killeshin were Hubert Mazur, Daniel Hegarty, Kian Dooley and Eamon Moran, who tried ever so hard all day and it was an outstanding team effort from the Vale lads.

Ballymurphy Celtic 1 - 1 Killeshin FC

Ballymurphy Celtic 1

Killeshin FC 1

In an entertaining affair the spoils were shared in Ballymurphy between two even teams.

Killeshin had the best of the opening bouts, but Ballymurphy capitalised on a loose ball from a corner and Tina Kavanagh made no mistake from close range to give the hosts the lead before half-time.

Both teams had chances in the second half before Killeshin equalised through a strike from Bláthnaid Wall. In a competitive half of football, both teams had good chances to take the lead, with Ballymurphy hitting the woodwork twice in the space of five minutes. A good point for both sides who have shown massive improvement in the last few weeks.

Best for Killeshin were Ciara Townsend, Bláthnaid Wall and Kim Nolan while Tina Kavanagh, Catriona Scully and Rachael Murphy served Ballymurphy well.

Parkville United 1 - 4 Killeshin FC

Parkville United 1

Killeshin FC 4

Two goals each for debutant Kieran Hennessy and Adam Steed saw Killeshin claim the points in Tullow on Sunday.

Hennessy took just five minutes to open his account when he volleyed Killeshin in front, Steed with the assist, as the visitors were off to a flyer. Steed and Hennessy were giving the United rear guard a horrid time and it was little surprise when Hennessy netted his and Killeshin’s second midway through the half, his curling shot from the edge of the box finding the net despite the best efforts of Sean Tompkins in the Parkville goal. United went on to dominate possession for the remainder of the half but couldn't find the goal their play merited before the break.

That changed five minutes after the restart, Jack Kennedy and Gareth Doyle linking up well before feeding the ball to Tom Pollard out wide, Pollard’s cross finding Paul Fitzgerald who neatly finished to halve the arrears. United pressed on in search of an equaliser but Killeshin defended well and then struck for their third just after the hour, Dylan Regan picked out Steed on the edge of the box, the striker skipping past a couple of challenges before firing Killeshin 3-1 ahead. Gareth Doyle spurred a good chance for United before Steed put the game to bed for Killeshin, Chris Connors with the assist as Steed slotted home number four.

Best for Killeshin were Declan Bolton, Kieran Walsh, Shane Martin and Brendan McDonald. United’s best included Jamie Welsh, Tom Pollard and Dylan Sheridan.

Crettyard United 3 - 0 Killeshin FC

Crettyard United 3

Killeshin FC 0

Crettyard hosted Killeshin in a local derby and as always in these types of games it was full of action throughout.

It was Crettyard who started the better of the two teams as they won a series of corners and from one of these Luke Phillips rose highest to head home for 1-0 to Crettyard. After falling behind Killeshin were the team who looked the more likely to score but both sides were working really hard with each side having a gilt-edged chance apiece Killeshin’s fell to Mikey Dempsey who shot just over the bar from inside the box and for Crettyard Ian Shanahan’s fierce shot was well saved by Killeshin’s keeper Craig Doyle. The interval came with Crettyard holding on to that slender 1-0 lead.

Killeshin went on the attack early in the second-half but were undone with a swift counter-attack following a Killeshin corner as Tobo Olaoye went on a fantastic run down the left and he crossed in for Luke Bailey to flick on to Ian Shanahan to head firmly home and make the score 2-0. Killeshin now had a really uphill task to try and get something out of this game but they were undone again as a great cross from Crettyard’s Ciaran Burke found Luke Phillips to head home for his brace and make the score an unassailable 3-0 lead as time was quickly running out. Killeshin tried hard right to the finish, but they couldn’t really trouble the Crettyard defence or their keeper and it ended 3-0 to Crettyard.

Standing out for Crettyard were Luke Phillips, Luke Ramsbottom and John Brennan, whilst best for Killeshin were Lee Nolan, Kaelum Hand and Evan Tracey.

Newpark started this encounter on the front foot and introduced a high pressing game which led to early chances from Denise Doyle and Abbie Wall.

The second half saw Newpark improve their passing and on 65 minutes saw Denise Doyle cross the ball to Abbie Wall who tapped in from close range. Newpark scored a third when Sinead McGrane’s shot come cross was latched onto by Ebony Masuku and she blasted past the Killeshin Keeper. Killeshin grabbed a constellation goal late on with a stunning strike by Lisa Flynn but Newpark held on to book their place in the next round.

Niamh Smith, Sarah Dempsey and Aoife O’Rourke did well for Killeshin while Ebony Masuku, Annie Dunne and Denise Doyle impressed for the winners.

Dolmen Celtic 5 - 3 Killeshin FC

Dolmen Celtic 5

Killeshin FC 3

Dolmen started quick and were rewarded with an early goal from an own goal with the ball being headed over the Killeshin keeper by his own defender who misjudged the cross. The tables turned quick as Killeshin equalised with the next attack which was a well worked move which saw a great cross from Franky Dowling headed in at the near post by Liam Serry. Dolmen took the upper hand once again when Paul Connors netted from a twenty-yard dead ball. Killeshin fought back to level the game again from a long throw in which lead to a goal mouth scramble for the ball which ended up in Dolmen’s goal when Liam Serry smashed it in. Dolmen went ahead for the third time when Killeshin’s defence made a mistake and Joe Doran was quick to pounce and finish the chance to leave the home team leading at the break. After the break Killeshin once again equalised when a poor mistake in the Dolmen defence let Declan Bolton score. Both teams had spells of possession but Keelan Lacey hit a wonder strike to be envied by Pirlo himself from just outside of the box to hit the top corner leaving the opposition number one with no chance. Dolmen killed the game off when they took a two-goal lead for the first time after a great goal from Danny Thompson.

Liam Dempsey was outstanding for the yellow and black with three assists. Best for Killeshin were Ciaran Walsh, Niall Scully and Liam Serry.

Burrin Celtic 3 - 2 Killeshin FC

Burrin Celtic 3

Killeshin FC 2

For the first thirty minutes of this game neither team produced any clear-cut chances with Killeshin being the more dominant, but they didn’t take advantage of their dominance.

Killeshin’s Evan Treacy worked hard on the left wing, providing a number of fine crosses into Burrin’s penalty area, but none were converted. That all changed on 33 minutes, when Burrin made Killeshin pay for their lack of finishing, as a fine team move ended up with Adam Nolan breaking the deadlock when he shot home for a 1-0 score line. On thirty minutes an unstoppable shot from all of 30 yards by Killeshin’s Jack Brennan levelled the scores at 1-1 and that was the score at the interval.

Burrin got off to a great start in the second half as Dan Smyth beautifully lobbed the Killeshin keeper to put them into a 2-1 lead and fifteen minutes later Burrin scored again after some great link-up play saw Scott Treacy finish well to make it 3-1. Daniel Core got Killeshin’s second, with only twenty minutes to go to make the score 3-2 and whilst they pushed hard until the end, some strong defending by Burrin kept them out. Both teams put in great performances, but Burrin just about edged it and deserved their 3-2 victory.

It was an overall team effort from Burrin and standing out for Killeshin were Kealum Hand, Lee Nolan and Evan Tracey.

St Fiacc’s 3

This was the old cliché a game of two halves as Fiacc’s raced into 3-0 half time lead.

The ever improving Killeshin outfit refused to lie down however and were soon back in the game with a well taken strike from Lisa Flynn. Try as they did, they couldn’t make a further dent in the score line but were rewarded with some good performances by Lucy Gaffney, Ciara Townsend and Becky Wrafter.

Killeshin FC 0 - 1 Slaney Rovers

Killeshin FC 0

Slaney Rovers 1

A lone first strike from Lubomir Lesko was enough for Rovers to take points and cement their place in the top half of the table, third only on goal difference from Crettyard.

Killeshin started the better of the sides but were caught on the break 12 minutes in, Daniel O’Brien breaking down the wing before squaring for Lesko to slot the visitors ahead. Thereafter there were chances at both ends, Fergal Harmon in the Rovers goal pulled off a fine save to deny Dylan Regan and then Harmon saved a header from Gary Scully which looked destined for the net on the half hour. Aaron Broughall had a chance to double the Rovers lead just before the break but he shot wide with only the 'keeper to beat.

The second half was more of the same with both sides creating and missing chances, Dominic Byrne, Aaron Broughall and Daniel O’Brien all had chances to put the game to bed for Rovers but not could find the target when well placed. Killeshin hard their own chances to take a point, Dylan Regan and Shane Martin with the best of them but it was Lesko’s early strike which proved the match winner for the visitors.

Best for Slaney were Andy Foley, Stephen Farrell and Eoin Curran. Killeshin’s best included John Fleming, Ian Brennan and Shane Coakley.

St Patricks Boys 1 - 1 Killeshin FC

St Patrick’s Boys 1

Killeshin FC 1

A late penalty from Liam Byrne earned Pat’s a share of the spoils in this local affair on Sunday.

St Pat’s had the best of the early exchanges but couldn’t convert chances into scores and as the half wore on it was the visitors that began to look more menacing. Adam Steed was a constant threat for Killeshin and he was twice denied before Killeshin eventually took the lead five minutes before the break, Chris Connors released Dylan Regan through on goal and he neatly slotted past the advancing keeper to make it 1-0 to the visitors at half time.

There was little between the teams in the second half as they largely cancelled each other out. Killeshin thought they had a second goal midway through the half a Steed found the net only for play to be called back for an earlier foul and Pat’s made the most of this let off when Mark Delaney was fouled by the Killeshin keeper with three minutes left on the clock and Liam Byrne made no mistake from 12 yards as he converted to earn his team a point.

Best for Pat’s included Chris Gaul, Mark Delaney, Tomas Murphy and Luke Kehoe. Killeshin's best were Shane Martin, Liam Seery and Barry Ryan.

Killeshin FC 2 - 3 Parkville United

Killeshin FC 2

Parkville United 3

Craig Staunton struck for a late winner as Parkville saw off Killeshin by the odd goal in five.

In a very open contest chances came and went at both ends Killeshin’s Adam Steed missing the first of them from six yards after just five minutes. United keeper Sean Tompkins beat away a long-range effort from John Fleming. Against the run of play United found themselves ahead on the half hour Gareth Doyle releasing Paul Fitzgerald who kept his cool to slot beyond the keeper as the visitors went into the break 1-0 up.

Five minutes into the second half and Killeshin were level Aaron McCafferty setting up Steed to make it 1-1. Liam Seery and Barry Ryan both wasted chances to give Killeshin the lead before Parkville again hit them on the break Staunton and Gareth Doyle linking up to create the opening for Paul Fitzgerald to net his and United’s second on the hour. Things got worse for the hosts when they lost a defender to a second yellow shortly afterwards but Killeshin made little of their numerical disadvantage as they hauled themselves level. Enda O’Rourke rising highest at a corner to make it 2-2 with 20 minutes left. Despite been down to ten men it was Killeshin who looked most likely to get a winner but a combination of poor finishing and some excellent goal keeping from Tompkins kept them at bay and they paid a hefty price with five minutes left on the clock. There appeared little danger when Staunton picked up the ball 25 yards from goal but a quick turn and ferocious shot saw the net rattled as United claimed the win.

Best for Killeshin included Barry Ryan, Enda O’Rourke and Isaac Talent. Impressing for United were Jack Kennedy, Tom Pollard and man of the match Sean Tompkins.

A depleted Killeshin made the trip to Thomastown on Sunday afternoon.

Thomastown were on the scoresheet immediately after some good work from Meghan Farrell found Sarah Walsh in the box and she made no mistake. Thomastown scored another six in the opening half when Walsh got her second, Jennie Brennan added a brace, Eva Hynes then got in on the act but the goal of the game came just before the break when Caoimhe Woods scored with a cracking long-range strike.

Killeshin keeper Aoife O’Rourke had an excellent afternoon making some fine saves to keep the Thomastown attack at bay somewhat. Despite this Jennie Brennan would go on to complete her hat trick near the end and Joanna and Meghan Farrell would complete the scoring to reward the efforts of Alicia Minogue, Lisa Carney and hat trick hero Jennie Brennan.

Alana Waters, Lucy Gaffney and Aoife O’Rourke performed with distinction for Killeshin.

A late goal from Seanie Furlong rescued a point for Rovers after the hosts blew a 2-0 half time lead to trail 3-2 in this entertaining affair on Sunday.

Slaney make all the early running, creating chances for Aaron Broughall and Daniel O’Brien, both shooting wide when well placed. Thereafter the game settled and it wasn’t until five minutes before the break that we had the first goal of the game. A Killeshin defender handled in the area and Furlong slotted home from the spot for the lead. It got better for Rovers moments later as Furlong turned provider for Dominic Byrne to tap home as the hosts went into half time two goals to the good.

The second half saw Killeshin dominate and it yielded goals, three of them as they turned the game on its head to lead going into the last few minutes.
