Parkville United v Killeshin FC
Carlow Shield 27/08 11:00
Parkville United 1 - 3 Killeshin FC

Parkville United 1

Killeshin 3

This all Premier Division tie went the way of the visitors as Killeshin came from 1-0 down at half time to advance to the next round.

United started well with Conor McCarney and Owen Murphy causing problems for the Killeshin rear-guard. They deservedly hit the front on 15 minutes when Tommy Byrne's free kick was volleyed home by Aaron Morris. United were in dominant form but some wasteful finishing in front of goal ensured it stayed 1-0 at the break.

On the restart, it was Killeshin's turn to dominate and the game turned their way 6 minutes in when Mick McCartney fired to the net to level matters and Parkville lost a man to a red card moments later. Killeshin hit the front just after the hour mark, Declan Bolton finding the net for 2-1. Conor McCarney and Griffin Kennedy both went close to an equaliser for United before Ian Brennan scored for the visitors with a thunderous 25-yard strike to make it 3-1.

Best for Killeshin were Bryan Lawlor, Liam Dunne and Jake Nolan while Owen Murphy, Tommy Byrne and Conor McCarney impressed for United.

Ballymurphy Celtic v Killeshin FC
Premier Division 17/09 11:00
Ballymurphy Celtic 2 - 1 Killeshin FC

Ballymurphy Celtic 2

Killeshin 1

Back to back home wins for Celtic see them flying high in their first top flight season while Killeshin will be disappointed to lose their opening league game after making huge progress last year.

Ballymurphy were into their stride early and hit the front on 17 minutes, Jack Foley saw his effort saved but Thomas Doyle was on hand to slot home the loose ball for the lead. Luke Roche was denied by an excellent save as Celtic went in search of a second but gradually Killeshin began to get a foothold. Ian Brennan on Killeshin’s right was getting plenty of ball but his quality deliveries weren’t matched with quality finishing and it remained 1-0 at the interval.

The second half saw the visitors level within five minutes, Shane Coakley finding the net from a free kick. This signalled a period of dominance for the visitors but they failed to convert chances into goals and with ten minutes left Celtic made them pay. A brilliant move started by Mike O’Grady set Jack Foley away, his pass found Luke Roche on the edge of box who delightfully nutmegged the last defender and rifled a shot to the top corner for the lead. Killeshin again responded and had an effort chalked off for a tight offside before time ran out on the visitors and Celtic held on for the win.

Best for Ballymurphy were Paul Foley, Anto Jordan and Mark Maloney. Killeshin’s best were Brian Mullen, Liam Dunne and Ian Brennan

Killeshin FC v Celtic Stars

Killeshin FC 0 - 4 Celtic Stars

Killeshin FC 0

Celtic Stars 4

Killeshin were up against Stars, who are in the race for the title and they were always going to have a hill to climb, as Stars were quickly into their stride, as they hit the woodwork three times in the first ten minutes, through Dale Austin and Tony Darcy twice, as their luck was out, in those early stages. However, after 13 minutes Senan Finucan threaded a pass through to William Dixon and he slotted home for 0-1, which was fully deserved.

Killeshin did stay with Stars for good periods of time and they had several chances fall to Murty Williamson and Fergus Nolan, but they were all spurned, as Stars defended stoutly.

Shortly before half-time, Stars -Slawek Jakobczak won the ball 25 yards out and beat three opponents, before drilling a fine shot, into the bottom corner and Stars took this 0-2 lead into the interval.

Killeshin started the second-half the better, however, inside four minutes Piotr Zaborniak crossed in a great ball to Gareth Cullen who headed home for a 0-3 cushion and Stars were cruising. The final quarter was all Killeshin as they strove to get something from the game, with Eddie Gaffney and Glenn Ryan working hard through the middle, but the Stars defence held firm. Stars went on to add another, when seven minutes from time, William Dixon played in Senan Finucan, who was taken down in the box and William Dixon scored from the spot to make the final score 0-4, as they maintain their title challenge.

Best for Killeshin were Barry Costello, Mick Lowry and Eddie Hand, whilst standing out for the Stars were Slawek Jakobczak, Martin Byrne and Dale Austin.

Killeshin FC v St Fiacc's FC
o35 Div 2 19/08 18:00
Killeshin FC 1 - 1 St Fiacc's FC

Killeshin FC 1

St Fiacc’s FC 1

This was a very entertaining game between second and third in the League – there being little the two teams from start to finish.

Fiacc’s started the better and had plenty of chances but couldn’t make any of them count, because of wayward finishing and excellent defending by Killeshin’s Joe Travers and Barry Costello, keeping them at bay.

Killeshin came back into the game and had a shout for a penalty denied, when Murty Williamson was tumbled over in the box, but just before half-time Fiacc’s Oisin Ayers scored a great goal from the edge of the box to take a 0-1 lead into the interval.

Killeshin put some pressure on Fiacc’s, but it was Fiacc’s who were creating the better chances and only a terrific save by Killeshin’s keeper prevented them going 0-2 up.

With ten minutes to go, a loose ball was collected, controlled and volleyed home off a post by Killeshin’s Paddy McDonald, in what was a contender for ‘goal of the season’ and a final 1-1 score-line, which was a fair result.

Best for Killeshin were Murty Williamson, Glen Ryan and Eddie Gaffney, whilst standing out for Fiacc’s were PJ Connolly, Pete Dorgan and Sean Maher.
