Joey’s entertained Crettyard in blustery conditions, with Joey’s getting off to a jittery start, but they soon settled and started passing the ball around well and opening the Crettyard defence.

Joey’s first goal came when Jonah Dunne made a good run up the right wing and he then pulled back a lovely ball to the on-rushing Evan Maguire, who rocketed the ball into the back of the Crettyard net for 1-0. Joey’s dominating play and possession, they didn’t have long to wait for a second goal, as Dawid Radochonski’s drilled free-kick, forced the Crettyard keeper to push the ball on to the crossbar and Cian Shannon was there to finish off the rebound for 2-0. Joey’s third goal came just before the interval, when Sam Byrne made a run up the left and then crossed in a fine ball across the goals and it was met by Jonah Dunne, who swept it into the net for 3-0 and they took that comfortable lead into the interval.

In the second-half, Crettyard re-jigged their line-up and pushed three up fronts but the Joey’s defence stayed rock solid and kept a deserved ‘clean-sheet’ although, Joey’s should have added to their tally, but they were denied when a shot hit the post.

Best for Joey’s were Matthew Downey, Robert Timmons, Ross Mannion and Dylan McDermott, whilst it was a battling performance from Crettyard.

Crettyard move to within six points of leaders New Oak, United having played three games less as the battle for the title moves into the home straight.

United weren’t at their best early on and despite plenty of possession they were struggling to create in front of goal. Mikey Whelan missed a great chance for Celtic to poach the lead against the run of play before United finally turned possession into a goal ten minutes before the break, Andy Brennan teeing up Luke Maher to fire the hosts ahead.

United were slow off the mark in the second half and with Celtic getting joy in midfield the hosts rang the changes, making three substitutions, one of which, Aaron Morris made an almost instant impact as he netted just after the hour mark for 2-0. United had chances late on to increase their lead but neither Bobby Dowling or Colin Osbourne could convert when well placed. Dean Grennan spurned a late chance for Celtic as they battled to the end but United eased to the three points to reward the efforts Cristoir Maher, Bobby Dowling and Luke Maher.

Celtic’s best were Jamie Doyle, Thomas Doyle and James Kelly.

Crettyard also advance to the last 16 in Leinster after a resounding victory on Sunday against Dublin side Kilmore. The early exchanges were tight, but the hosts got going around midway through the half and began to dominate with Colin Osborne and Cris Maher driving them forward. Aaron Morris looked to have put Cretty ahead on 30 minutes only for offside to rule it out, but the deadlock was broken when the United were awarded a free on the end line after great work by Craig Comerford drew a foul and Cris Maher stood the ball to the back post where Bobby Dowling made no mistake to send Crettyard into half time 1-0 ahead. Celtic piled on the pressure in the second half but defensively United were rock solid with James Rothwell outstanding throughout .The second goal was outstanding with tight passing under serious pressure followed by Comerford who sprung down the left and fired a great ball across the area and Seamus Dowling was on hand to tap home .The third followed shortly afterwards, Cris Maher found Colin Osbourne and he powered past two Kilmore men and fired Home to the bottom corner .The visitors pulled one back late on but it was only a consolation and United move on to the next round .Best for Crettyard were Aaron Morris, Craig Comerford and James Rothwell.
