Vale Wanderers v Thomastown United
02/02 14:00
Vale Wanderers 2 - 3 Thomastown United

Vale Wanderers 2

Thomastown United 3

This was a high tempo encounter between two good passing teams.

Vale opened the scoring on 22 minutes with a fine long-range strike from Keeva Collins. Thomastown started to settle into proceedings and levelled on 26 minutes with an instinctive finish from Ashling Brennan. Thomastown took the lead just before the break with a clever finish from Lauren McCormack to the right-hand corner of the goal.

The table toppers started the second half much the better and were two goals clear on the hour mark when Jenny Brennan scored a superb free kick. Vale continued to push forward however and were rewarded for doing so when the pacey Philomena Murphy got on the end of a cut back to score from close range to set up a thrilling finish. This would only prove to be a conciliation however as Thomastown held on for a hard-fought victory to consolidate their position at the top.

An excellent team performance from Vale with Noleen Maher, Aoife Roache and Keeva Collins standing out while Holly Brennan and Ashling Brennan and Sarah Welsh worked hard for the winners

Ballymurphy Celtic v Killeshin FC
02/02 14:00
Ballymurphy Celtic 1 - 1 Killeshin FC

Ballymurphy Celtic 1

Killeshin FC 1

In an entertaining affair the spoils were shared in Ballymurphy between two even teams.

Killeshin had the best of the opening bouts, but Ballymurphy capitalised on a loose ball from a corner and Tina Kavanagh made no mistake from close range to give the hosts the lead before half-time.

Both teams had chances in the second half before Killeshin equalised through a strike from Bláthnaid Wall. In a competitive half of football, both teams had good chances to take the lead, with Ballymurphy hitting the woodwork twice in the space of five minutes. A good point for both sides who have shown massive improvement in the last few weeks.

Best for Killeshin were Ciara Townsend, Bláthnaid Wall and Kim Nolan while Tina Kavanagh, Catriona Scully and Rachael Murphy served Ballymurphy well.

Nurney Villa v Slaney Rovers B
Div Two 02/02 11:00
Nurney Villa 1 - 0 Slaney Rovers B

Nurney Villa 1

Slaney Rovers 0

An 84th minute penalty from John Townsend decided this hard-fought tie in Nurney to make it four games on the bounce unbeaten.

The first half was an evenly fought out contest with the home side missing the best chance to go ahead when Mick Murphy had a penalty kick saved by the Slaney keeper after Joe Byrne was fouled in the area in the 27th minute.

The second half was again a hard battle with chances wasted at both ends. The decisive moment came late on when Colin Townsend was upended in the area and John Townsend converted the spot kick.

Tops for Nurney were Jack Rowan, Rian Farrell, Tom Murphy and Philip Murphy.

Hanover Harps B v Round Tower Rovers
Div Two 02/02 14:00
Hanover Harps B 3 - 0 Round Tower Rovers

Hanover Harps 3

Round Tower Rovers 0

Hanover bounced to their first win since October.

They started smartly and were unlucky not to take an early lead on two minutes when Dillon Murphy squared to Aaron Wynne, only for his effort to be cleared off the line. Glenn Nolan almost broke the deadlock on 22 minutes but for a last-ditch block as he was about to shoot. Good interplay down the right wing between Gary O’Keeffe and Dylan Walsh pulled a smart save out of the Rovers ‘keeper on the half hour mark. Hanover’s perseverance paid off on 42 minutes when Craig Walker’s clearance found Shane Kelly with pinpoint accuracy and Kelly's first-time volley nestled in the bottom corner.

The second half saw more of the same from the home side who were fully in control. Aaron Kinsella went on a mazy run on 52 minutes resulting in a free kick but Wynne's effort was saved by the visitors ‘keeper. Hanover got their second with 22 minutes remaining when Kelly raided down the right, crossed to Glenn Nolan who set Dylan Walsh to fire the ball into the corner. On 72 minutes Aaron Wynne played a super ball to put Dillon Murphy through on goal resulting in him been taken down by the onrushing goalkeeper. Murphy stepped up and made it 3-0 to Hanover.

St Patricks Boys B v Killeshin FC B
Div Two 02/02 14:00
St Patricks Boys B 4 - 2 Killeshin FC B

St. Patrick’s Boys 4

Killeshin FC 2

St. Pat’s beat local rivals, Killeshin to keep pace with Bagenalstown at the top of the table.

Pat’s took the lead through a great free kick from Dinny Farrell which was met by the head of John O’Neill. Five minutes later Pat’s doubled their lead when Thomas Sheehan coolly slotted into the back of the net. Just before halftime, Jake Nolan put Pat’s three up with a header to the back of the net which couldn’t be stopped on the line by the Killeshin defence.

Killeshin fought back and Evan Ruddy made it 3-1. However, a David Brennan goal gave Pat’s an extra cushion half an hour from time. It was the visitors who finished the stronger when James Brennan finished well to the top corner of the net. However, the fighting spirit showed by Killeshin was not rewarded and Pats ran out winners 4-2.

Best for Pat’s were Harry Walker, Jake Nolan and Leven Da Silva. Best for Killeshin were Tomasz Frelka, Niall O’Rourke and Tyrone Dempsey

Bagenalstown AFC v St Joseph's FC
Div Two 02/02 11:00
Bagenalstown AFC 4 - 1 St Joseph's FC

Bagenalstown AFC 4

St. Joseph’s 1

Bagenalstown had a tough encounter with a youthful but well organised St Joseph’s team, coming out on top to keep their unbeaten streak going and keep their title hopes alive. Joeys took a well-deserved lead on 30 minutes. Great work from Craig Fogarty turned over the ball and found Trevor Nolan who scored.

Town upped the ante after the break and Dion Wall crossed a super ball to Nolan to add his second. A cross from Stevie Fowler again found Wall at the back post who nodded down for Matty Curran, making it 3-1. Wall again was the provider with a super ball over the top to find Craig Fogarty who finished neatly to make it 4-1.

New Oak Boys B v St Fiacc's FC
Division 1 02/02 14:00
New Oak Boys B 1 - 2 St Fiacc's FC

New Oak Boys 1

St Fiacc's FC 2

Saints just about edged this bottom of the table clash at the Burrin Road venue on Sunday.

The very heavy pitch did not help either team but it was the away side who got the opening goal when a great pass from David Hurley set up Brian O’Rourke to expertly tuck the ball away. The Graiguecullen side kept up the momentum and a brilliant individual goal from Ross Hennessy made it 2-0. The home side gave themselves a lifeline on half time as Dale McGee finished a great counterattack to leave the score 2-1 at the break.

The second half was played out with both teams creating chances with New Oak’s Johnny Furey’s free kick just grazing the crossbar. Both defences held out to keep the score as it was.

Best for Fiacc’s were Denis Hand, Brian O’Rourke and David Hurley while for New Oak Conor May, James Ruth and Dale McGee starred.
