It was a facile win for Crettyard on Sunday against a spirited but limited New Oak Boys B side. To their credit, New Oak defended well in the game's early stages and kept the Crettyard attack at bay. However, the home side was in a competitive mindset, and they were relentless going forward with the ball. Despite chances going amiss, Crettyard went ahead at the 20-minute mark when Craig Comerford's cross was headed home by Lee Salter. Salter and Comerford again combined after 28 minutes for Salter and Crettyard's second goal of the game. Crettyard's Bobby Dowling fired in the team's third goal with a crisp volley after 32 minutes. The first half scoring was then rounded off by Chris Maher, who ran the show and scored from a free kick just before half-time to leave the score 4-0.
The second half was a non-event as the four first-half goals seemed to take the spirit out of New Oak. However, Crettyard added another goal from Luke Maher after 70 minutes to leave the final score 5-0. Crettyard now advances to the quarter-final of the Carlow Cup.
