Nurney started the better of the two teams with their long balls and set piece plays, causing a particular threat to the Vale defence. However, after 30 minutes, Vale broke the deadlock, only for the strike to be ruled out for offside. This kicked Vale into life, and just before halftime Lee Conran played Conor Byrne through. Still, the in-form striker's shot hit the post, with the ball falling to Keelan Brennan to slot home the rebound.
The second half started similar to the first, with Nurney attacking from the whistle. With this period of attacking play, Nurney found an equaliser from a corner. From here on in, though, Vale started to take control and pushed for a win. With 70 minutes on the clock, Ceilum Darcy picked up the ball 25 yards from goal. He looked up, and with nothing on, produced a bullet of a shot that flew right into the top corner to give Vale a 2-1 lead. Vale played on the front foot and missed late chances to extend the lead. Geoffrey Doran and Shane Cowman coming close. This was before a goal mount scramble at the end nearly saw Nurney grab a share of the spoils, but Vale held on to win 2-1. Best for Vale on the day were Aidan Lillis, Eoin Johnson, and Jordan Doyle
