Dolmen Celtic are now on top of the Herald Striker Division after they defeated Baltinglass Town in Parkmore.

Both sides had their chances in the early goings of this one, but it was Dolmen Celtic who took the lead as a long throw found the head of Conor Byrne and he stuck it in with seven minutes on the clock.

The visitors continued to push on and nearly had a second goal when Joe Lea went on a good individual run when he beat four Baltinglass players before rounding the keeper and taking a shot but some good tracking back from a Baltinglass defender led to a clearance off the line. Dolmen continued to dominate and both Danny Thompson and Paul Core had opportunities to add to their lead, but they couldn’t take their chances as the score stayed 1-0 at half-time.

Dolmen continued to put pressure on the Baltinglass defence with Joe Lea and John Nagle continuing to stand out on the wings for the visitors. Dolmen got their deserved second goal after Nagle played in Thompson and Thompson got his second moments later to make it 3-0 to Dolmen Celtic.

Thompson turned provider after 65 minutes as he whipped in a cross for Paul Core to head home and secure the three points for the Carlow town side. Baltinglass battled hard to get a consolation goal but Jamie Hennessey was determined to keep his clean sheet with some fine saves, while Jimmy White nearly added a fifth for Dolmen Celtic, but his shot hit the bar.

Dolmen Celtic were too good on the day in what was a solid performance from their side, with Joe Lea, Colin Nolan and John Nagle while Baltinglass tried hard but were second best on the day.
