Dolmen came out on top between these two newly promoted team in St. Patrick’s College on Sunday.

The home side opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute when Colin Nolan set up Joe Lea to score. Celtic kept up the pressure and Nolan and Danny Thompson were causing problems for the Slaney defence. Thompson was rewarded for his efforts when he beat two defenders and slotted the ball home on 30 minutes. However, the visitors responded immediately and Paddy Farrell reduced the deficit when he finished off a cross by Eoin Curran just before the break.

The Rathvilly side began the second half on the front foot and deservedly equalised when Shane Murphy slipped in Eoin Curran to equalise on 79 minutes. Joe Lea and Conor Byrne went close for the Carlow Town side before Thompson sent a pile driver to the net following a free kick on 85 minutes to wrap up the three points.

Best for the winners were Niall Davis, Patrick O’Brien and Conor Byrne. For Slaney Shane Murphy, Regan Murphy and Shane McGannon were outstanding.
