Hanover Harps B 4 - 3 Slaney Rovers B
This was a much-improved performance from Slaney, despite losing by a goal. The slow start had them two down at the break. Hanover played some great football within the half, the front three of Dylan Twohig, Dillon Murphy and Brandon Redmond caused havoc from the first minute. After twenty minutes, the deadlock was broken for Hanover when a Brandon Redmond free was headed back across goal by Jason Brennan, and Dillon Murphy headed home. Hanover doubled their lead when another free caused a stir in the Slaney box, the ball broke to Dowling out wide, and his square ball found Alan Bolger free at the back post to tap home. However, whatever was said at half-time saw Slaney score within a minute of the restart when Peter Kehoe finished off a defence-splitting pass from Rory McColl, making it 2-1. Hanover Harps responded with two further goals. The Slaney keeper could only parry a piledriver from Hanover's Murphy. Still, Bolger was on hand from 10 yards to grab his second. Slaney had to take risks, leaving gaps at the back. Twohig found acres of space for himself. On 65 minutes, he was upended in the box, dusted himself down, and found the bottom corner from 12 yards to give Hanover a 4-1 lead. Slaney’s McColl was then fouled in the box. Slaney's Kehoe calmly slotted home the resultant penalty on 80 minutes to make the game 4 -2. Slaney's third goal was a team effort. Defender Paddy Kelly regained possession, and his neat pass put John Martin through on goal. He found Peter Kehoe in space, who fired home and completed his hat-trick. The final score stood as 4 - 3 in favour of Hanover Harps B. Best for Slaney- Ted Redmond, Keith Slye and John Martin. Best for Hanover - Aaron Kinsella, Dillon Murphy, Pa Carr and Eric Dowling.
