Parkville's quest for a first Premier Division title since 2004 remains alive as they brushed aside Celtic at Hawkins Lane on Sunday to remain in second place just 3 points behind leaders New Oak. Despite dominating possession in the first half United only had a solitary Craig Staunton goal to show for their efforts at half time. That goal arriving after just 7 minutes, TJ Kavanagh supplying the cross for Staunton to head home at the back post. It was half an hour before United created another decent chance, Tom Pollard setting up Staunton but this time his effort was wide of the mark. Celtic's Kevin Foley missed a chance to level matters just before the break but after getting in behind the United rear-guard he couldn't direct his effort on goal and Parkville took their slender lead into the break. Within 5 minutes of the second half Parkville effectively killed the game off. TJ Kavanagh with another assist, this time for Mike Dobosz who slotted home from a tight angle to make it 2-0 within a minute of the restart and shortly afterwards Staunton netted his second and Parkville's third, Cian Doran doing the hard work before teeing up Staunton to slot home. In fairness to Celtic, they kept plugging away but Thomas Doyle saw his effort saved just after the hour before Parkville's relentless pressure yielded another couple of goals before the end. Kavanagh completed a hat trick of assists on 70 minutes, this time setting up Joe Sunderland to score before getting in on the scoring act himself with 12 minutes left, getting on the end of a Staunton pass before brilliantly chipping over the keeper to make it 5-0. Best for United on the day were TJ Kavanagh, Cian Madden and Craig Staunton while Celtic's best included MJ Doran, Mark Moloney and Kevin Foley.
