Slaney 3
Ardattin 1
After last week’s great win, it was a frustrating defeat away to premier opponents today for Ardattin as Slaney Rovers picked up their 2nd win in the Shield. Slaney put good pressure on early in the first half and Anto Moran in goal for Ardattin came to the rescue more than once.
Ardattin’s first proper chance came in the 18th minute with a free kick on the edge of the box from Brian Byrne. Slaney were lucky not to concede in the 20th minute when an Anto Moran kickout was narrowly headed over the Slaney bar by their own full back. The last 15 minutes of the 1st half were more even, only some wasted possessions by Ardattin kept the pressure on for Slaney. 0-0 the score going into half time. The second half saw Will Doran coming on for Liam Whelan as Ardattin tried to mix it up but Slaney started off strong again, but Ardattin eventually started to dominate more of the game. Brian Byrne unlucky again with a free kick on 50 minutes, and Will Doran unlucky not to score a header from a Griffin Kennedy cross into the box. Slaney took the lead with a well worked goal on 62 minutes when Joe Thomson cut in from the right wing on a solo run to fire home. Ardattin levelled 6 minutes later after great work from Dylan Hanley found Graham Byrne for his opener.
Pressure from Slaney Rovers for the next few minutes eventually paid off when Conor O'Brien made it 2-1 in the 82nd minute. Slaney followed up with their 3rd on 88 minutes after a long throw -in from Paddy Farrell, was flicked on by Lubohir Lesko into the path of Garreth Doyle who hit a stunning shot to make it 3-1 to reward the efforts of Adam Keogh, Colm o Connor and Paddy Farrell. Best for Ardattin were Anto Moran and Dylan Hanley.
