This is the first game for both teams in this competition
Slaney Rovers 4
Kilree Celtic 0
Rovers got their season off to the perfect start as their easily overcame Kilree in Rathvilly on Sunday.
The hosts threatened from the start but had to wait 20 minutes for the opener, but it was worth the wait. Stephen Farrell picking up a loose ball 25 yards from goal before firing a rocket to the net for 1-0. Kilree's best chance of an equaliser fell to Shane Salter but he fired his shot over the crossbar on 35 minutes and Rovers made them pay the price just before the break when Dominic Byrne weaved his way past three defenders before teeing up Aaron Broughall to make it 2-0 at half time.
Any thoughts Kilree had of a comeback were dashed two minutes after the restart, Rovers were awarded a penalty and Broughall slotted home from 12 yards for his second and the hosts’ third. With the game effectively over Rovers took their foot off the gas and it wasn't until five minutes from time that goal number four arrived, a fine solo effort from Rory McKernan finishing off the scoring as the hosts advanced to reward the efforts of Eoin Curran, Michael Foley and Lesko Lubomir. Kilree’s best included Alan Salter, Paul Kehoe and Shane Salter.
