St Fiacc’s FC 2
Mill Celtic 2
Mill Celtic continued their unbeaten run with this hard-fought draw against St. Fiacc’s in the Presentation College on Sunday.
Chances were at a premium early in the game with Aaron Kennedy coming closest for the away side when he fired narrowly over from just inside the box. Neither side were willing to give an inch but this changed in first half injury time when Saints’ Brian O’Rourke was fouled in the penalty box and Oisin Ayres expertly slotted past Korey Maher in the Mill goal.
The Kildare side started the second half the stronger and their quick start was rewarded when they were won a penalty of their own for handball. Brian Mackey stepped up and although his effort was saved by the home keeper, Eoin O’Neill was quickest to react to slot the ball home on 50 minutes. The visitors pushed on and found themselves ahead five minutes later when Aaron Kennedy fired home a terrific right footed volley from the edge of the box. To their credit Saints didn't give up and were awarded another penalty. Oisin Ayres stepped up again to draw the home side level. Both sides went in search of the winner with Celtic’s Shane Molloy hitting the crossbar with a back-post volley and then Aaron Kennedy was deemed to have been offside when he headed home Daniel Mackey’s cross.
Best for the visitors on the day were Brian Mackey, Brian Malone, and Eoin O’Neill. Best for St. Fiacc’s were Roy Pearson, Ross Hennessy, James Hickey and David Hurley.
