Mill Celtic 1
Kilree Celtic 2
Kilree kept up their 100 per cent record at the expense of unbeaten Mill in this top of the table clash on Sunday.
Both sides settled well in the early exchanges and the visitors had a chance to take the lead on 19 minutes when Mark MacDonald was brought down for a penalty, however Adam Meenehan in the Mill goal pulled off a great save. The visitors continued to dominate and Alan MacDonald set up David MacDonald but his effort was wide of the mark on 34 minutes. Another chance fell to Alan MacDonald on 38 minutes but again he failed to find the target. For Mill James Fahey and Brian Malone went close but it was all square at the break.
The Ballitore side started the second half the brighter and were awarded a penalty when Eoin O’Neill was fouled in the penalty area but Jamie Wall in the Kilree goal made a great save to deny Brian Mackey. Kilree’s pressure finally paid off when David MacDonald headed home an Eamon Nolan cross on 60 minutes. The home side were awarded another penalty and this time Aaron Kennedy made no mistake with the spot kick to level matters. The Kildare side then suffered a sucker punch as Kilree snatched the winner on 77 minutes when Alan MacDonald finally got the goal that his efforts deserved when he headed home an Alan Salter delivery to seal the points.
Best for the winners were Stephen Salter, Gary Dillon and Mark MacDonald. Best for the Ballitore men on the day were goalkeeper Adam Meenehan, Brian Malone and James Fahey.
