Dolmen Celtic 1
Slaney Rovers 2
First half goals from Seanie Furlong and Dominic Byrne earned Rovers a first away win of the season and lifted them up to third in the table.
Dolmen started the better of the sides but Fergal Harmon in the Rovers goal was proving a tough nut to crack. First the Rovers net minder tipped a Danny Thompson effort over the crossbar and then went one better as he produced a superb save from John Nangle's penalty on 15 minutes, the spot kick awarded for a foul on Thompson. Rovers had no such troubles in front of goal and when Aaron Broughall teed up Furlong, he made no mistake from close range to put the visitors ahead. That lead became 2-0 ten minutes before half time when Kyle Lawlor’s pass opened the Celtic defence for Byrne to net number two and put Rovers in the driving seat at the interval.
The second half was end to end stuff with Celtic eventually converting a chance with 15 minutes left. Thompson was again fouled in the box and this time Mark Davis took responsibility for the spot kick and slotted past Harmon to leave the minimum between the teams. Dolmen threw everything at the visitors in the last ten minutes but Rovers held firm to take the points and reward the efforts of Eoin Curran, Kyle Lawlor and Regan Murphy.
Celtic’s best were Mark Davis, Danny Thompson and Michael Meaney.
