Vale Wanderers 3

St Joseph’s 1

Joey’s came with a plan which they executed well, which was to defend deep and try and catch Vale on the counter-attack and this strategy gave Vale plenty of the ball but despite all that possession Vale just couldn’t get through a resolute Joey’s defence.

In the first ten minutes Vale should have taken the lead as they had clear-cut chances through Tommy Cummins, Brooklyn Dermody and Jack Treacy but they were all spurned. The rest of the half was pretty bleak, as Joey’s tactics nullified Vale’s best efforts and half-time came with a 0-0 score line.

It was a similar start to the second-half, but on seventy minutes, Joey’s Daniel Giedraitis latched on to a loose ball in the Vale box to score for 0-1. This reverse woke up Vale and they started to play a lot more attacking football with Jason Daly, Lorcan Galvin and Mark Foley all going close. However, with only ten minutes to go Vale got a break-through as Mark Foley rifled an equaliser into the bottom corner of the net for 1-1. Vale kept pushing for a winner and they were rewarded when Jack Treacy swung in an inch perfect corner that was met by the head of Tom Gardiner, at the back post and he gleefully, headed home for 2-1. Joey’s then pushed up looking for an equaliser, but they got caught ‘on the break’ as Cian Kavanagh hit a long ball, over the top that found Brooklyn Dermody, who finished well to make the final score 3-1.

It was a great defensive display from Joey’s, whilst Vale who slightly under par showed great character as a team to come from behind and win with only ten minutes left and this keeps them in second place in the division.
