Killeshin/Hanover 0
St Joseph’s 1
This was really tough battle between these two teams, with Killeshin/Hanover just, deservedly edging it, by the slenderest of margins, as they triumphed 1- 0 to gain their first victory of the season.
Killeshin/Hanover started slowly, but they started to grow into the game and 20 minutes in, they were controlling proceedings, as they came close, with a Ben Dorgan free-kick going just inches wide and just after Shane Murphy’s 30-yard half-volley had to be tipped over.
Joey’s were trying their best to get back into the game, but they just couldn’t get going, as Killeshin/Hanover just kept the pressure on, resulting in a litany of mistakes from Joey’s. Finally, on 33 minutes Killeshin/Hanover ceaseless pressure paid off, as Adam Nolan connected with a Dylan Gately corner and headed strongly into Joey’s net, to break the deadlock and give the home side a 1-0 lead and they took that slender lead into the interval.
Joey’s came more into the game in the second-half and tried their utmost to get back into the game, but Killeshin/Hanover were strong in defence and very quick on the counter-attack, although, poor decision-making in the final third and some fine saves from Joey’s keeper Sean Dollard, left them unable to increase their lead. Over the 90 minutes, Killeshin/Hanover thoroughly deserved their victory and all three points.
Best for Killeshin/Hanover were Mikey Dempsey, Josh Larkin, Brendan McDonald and the impressive duo of Adam Nolan and Ben Dorgan, whilst for Joey’s everybody did their best.
